What do you think about the STi8 tyres
#1
The std tyres on the 02 STI were Bridgestone potenza RE040 and for a std fit tyre I found them pretty good, good grip in the dry, progressive in the wet, but not as much outright grip in the wet as the Toyos that I changed them for.
They did seem to last very well as well.
Just my opinion of course.

You don't say what wheels you're running. If it's 17's, I found the OEM fine, with reasonable grip wet or dry.
If it's 18s, when I changed from 17s to 18s the car didn't feel as well planted as it had, and I incorrectly put it down to the Pzero Neros I'd had fitted. As soon as I'd had a full geometry check, and got everything set to the middle of the tolerances the car, the car was perfect. I think the 18s brought out the problems with the geometry, whereas the 17's masked it a bit.
I'm a bit surprised that you say that your P1 is/was better handling. You're about the only person who's done the P1 - STi8 thing to say so. IMHO the STi is better balanced when cornering and has better turn-in and despite extra weight feels more 'nimble' than the P1.

When I say better handling than the P1 I do mean that you seemed to get more feel through the suspension as to what the car was doing. The Suretrac LSD at the front does make a massive difference but possibly a little less predictable. On a track I suppose the STi8 may be better at the limits though.

Just changed from my P1 with P Zeros to an STi 8 with Michelin Potenzas. The tyres are a marked difference than the P1 tyres but not sure whether this is down to the STi8 handling characteristics. I do know that the P1 was/is better handling due to lighter weight and better geometry but I was wondering what people thought of these Potenza tyres.
I think they are great and give loads of grip/feel.
Has anyone seen the Evo advert for the Toyo Blues, they look great but not sure whether its a gimic rather than quality?

Having run PZero's for a year and changing them for SO3's, I dont the rate P0's at all. After my bro left me for dust at one of our regular roundabouts it was time to change (he was on Bridgestone SO3's).
