Looking at getting a new 18" wheel and tyre package for my MY01 WRX thanks to my new flexible friend. Most packages come with above tyres, are they any good, I don't do track days (least not in my car ) and don't particularly corner or drive hard.

Am I better of paying a little extra for some p-zero's (or something else) which is what I have on the standard wheels at the moment.

Any comments much appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

Thumbs up

I'd take the Toyo's over the Pzero's any day But I'd take F1 GSD3 over the Toyo's (just )

Chris,
I've had both Toyos and Goodyear GSD3's on my 01 and can say that GSD3's are a much better tyre IMHO.Toyos were good in the dry but I wasn't overly keen on em in the wet whereas GSD3's are a good tyre for both conditions!!
Just for info,my GSD3's cost around £128 fitted/balanced and came with metal valves!!

Good luck

Nick - is that for 1 F1 ? I've just paid £310 for 4. But have to pay another £40 for fitting and balancing.

Well I've just had a set of 18" Toyos fitted today. Can't comment on the F1s as I've never used them, but the Toyos have always been my favourite tyre for the Scoob (both in 17" and 18"). What a difference a new set of tyres makes Car is transformed. The old S03s were a bit knackered, but the difference is amazing. Also you realise just how hard the S03s were. On my car, MY01 with Eibach suspension, it was very firm with the S03s fitted. The Toyos do appear much softer and have improved the ride no end.

Got mine fitted at Tyres Northampton this afternoon for £117 per corner all in. Thanks to Mark and his boys for a top job - quick and efficient and at a decent price. Only downside is that I think I took their last set of 18" Toyos

Chris

Are you sure you got 18in tyres for that price? I'd say they were 17's at a guess!!!!

Getting back to the original question, yep, they're good. Last for ages too, but they are very noisey.

Question

Alpine99 did u just fit toyos up front & OE shyte at rear as toyos r da ***** in the wet which may mean yer back end is likely 2 loose the plot trying to keep up if so?

yup just fitted them on the front.. still got half worn oem on the rear.. I'm afraid I don't go for this replace all four at once stuff.. It's OK in F1, where they don't have to pay for them, or if I was a road going nutter.. But I'm not..

In good weather my driving style is progressive but not out and out fast.. In poor weather I'm more reserved.. My one year old daughter is in the back so not worth the risk... I could probably drive with slicks on and never notice the difference.. I've used Toyos in the past, when I was more 'daring' and always loved them and on the WRX they've cured the tramlining I was experiencing with the oems..

christ fair enough take it easy but i'd still not wana even think about driving that with grippy front tyres & shyte on the rear. In the wet however slow u may contemplate driving only takes a bit of a heavy right foot & goodbye rear end As i say hope u can stay safe but for £150 i am never skimping on rubber after i span in the wet on carp tyres!!!

@Alpine99 : unless you only keep the car for a short period of time then the average cost of replacing all 4 will only be marginally more than replacing in pairs. That is if you swap your wheels front to rear every 6000 or so.

Running very worn tyres at one end with new at the other will not only cause unusual handling effects, but could damage the diffs. Getting them repaired/rebuilt would make even a F1 team turn pale

perfectly calm si.. Knew I was sort of putting my head into the Lion's cage.. Speedking you're right if I ever got around to rotating them! Too lazy/ disorganised I guess...

I've been driving for 20 years now... bit depressing that..

Never spun a car and blamed it on the tyres.. It was always my fault for not driving within the limits of the grip available to me..

If you choose to use fish for tyres, you are bound to spin it!

lol at the fish comment & equally true about the driving within limits but that's the hole point with cheap tyres if u get far enough 2 discover the limit then chances r u have alreadu gone past it, er wot i mean is unlike a decent tyre where it progreessively will step out or wotever with shyte it will just GO .
Si
PS pedantic mode on u cant always no limits eg if there was diesel on road but that has nowt 2 do with this . Good luck & stay safe m8
