Have been asked by a friend to recomend best pads for his AP 6 pots for enthusiastic (sp?) braking.
He currently runs ds2500's (which the kit came with)but has any one run or would recomend same / different. I know some use pagid blues but I have no experience of them.
cheers simon

AP helped develop DS2500 pads for their kits with track days in mind and they're very good Stick the same in the back to maintain good front/rear balance. I've just ordered a set for the back.
Previously, I was running Pagid RS421 pads in my AP 6-pots, with DS2000 in the rear. This was a perfect mix for fast-road/track (UK00) but as stated above the Pagids are pricey. Now with DS2500 in the front, the brakes require slightly less pedal pressure and I don't think I'm getting enough help from the rear which snakes just a little under very hard braking. I'm hoping the DS2500 in the rear, with their slightly higher friction coefficient, will help tie my tail down a bit
Richard.

RS15, no question. 40% less pedal pressure for the same braking as RS42, which are stunning in themselves.
Friction coefficent of up to 0.7 and they work with the AP 330mm discs.

as the man above sez. PAGID rs15, however if you prefer FERODO then DS3000 would suit also (poss. slightly higher disc wear!!)
depends on budget?
also how hard driving? track days/competition/etc.
whats "exactly" wrong with current set up??
mail or phone for advice 0191-4103770

Pete/Stockcar, I think it's important to consider rear as well as front pads. Not many people do, but it makes a big difference to the way the car handles under heavy braking.
Stockcar, I dare say that you sell DS3000 pads. If so, are you prepared to replace everyone's wrecked front alloys after they've been sprayed with molten metal? That's what Prodrive had to do.
Best regards,
Richard.

hoppy - depends on the type of driving you do (competition/trackdays/etc.) as to how far you need to go (oh, and budget of course) but thats why i ALWAYS offer to speak to every customer personally and give advice on what will best suit their needs.
never had a problem with DS3000 but then we mainly sell/use these in competition cars (and for trackdays, etc.)
if any one needs FREE advice then all they have to do is mail or phone me 0191-4103770
hope this clarifies the situation

Stockcar, I admire your enterprise even if I don't entirely approve of it.
But you profess to give free advice, and presumably good advice. In which case, if you'd been around ScoobyNet or had an in-depth knowledge of the braking issues these particular cars suffer, you would NOT be suggesting DS3000 pads. Unless, that is, you want to pick up the tab for dozens of wrecked wheels (not to mention doors and sills being resprayed) and chewed discs.
Best regards,
Richard.

Hi Dan.
I actually prefer DS2500 but the question is, can you get RS421s for the same price as DS2500? My last set of RS421s cost £250 and the DS2500s were half that!
Cheers,
Richard.
PS Edited to add that I prefer the Ferodo DS2500 because they need less pedal pressure than the Pagids and therefore, I find, give a bit more feel. Both superb pads, though, given the conflicting requirements of everyday driving and track days

the ds3000 are competion pads so use them only for trackdays they need to be hot if you drive them cold all the time they skim the discs
the ds3000 are the best pads subaru wrc ford wrc peugeot wrc all uses them.
some people warp their discs, you know why because they use the wrong pads. don t use street pads or high performance pads on track.
if i use ds2500 pads on track my discs get warped heat spots etc. when i put in ds3000 i have no problems no vibration what so ever.
so it all depends on what you want and doing with the car
i use ds2500 for street and ds3000 for track days just wax youre car and wheel very good before you go to track and after track wash youre wheels and car properly.
but don t use ds3000 for normal road use NEVER

Andre, exactly. That's why I said what I did.
Simo's original question was about the best pads for "enthusiastic braking" which I take to mean fast-road. The answer is Ferodo DS2500, as recommended and supplied by AP Racing.
Best regards,
Richard.

Pete/hoppy et all
are the RS15 ok for road use as well as track? I have heard all the DS3000 stories and I don't think I would recomend them to my mate. Is it better to run 2500's on road & 3000's on track or would the pagid rs15 suit all occasions?
cheers simon

Would not argue with Dan. Pagid RS421s are a geat pad and, with Ferodo DS2000 in the back of my UK00 gave perfect balance front/rear on road and track. 100-0mph in 3.2 secs and absolutely stable and repeatable. Pretty amazing Good wear, too. Just cost a bit too much. I've done a lot of track and road miles with this set-up. No complaints.
I think DS2500 all-round will be cheaper and at least as good. But I've yet to prove it (roll on Bedford track day )
Richard.
