I'd never heard of them before I saw them on the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4S I bought recently, but I can recommend Nankang EX-500 tyres if you're looking for cheap. I've now done about 6k miles on them and used them on a wet (really wet ) track day at Knockhill and find them really progressive and not at all scary. Decent wet weather grip and seem to be wearing well. I still don't know much about them, other than they're Taiwanese (and they're cheap! - around £250 for four 225/50 ZR16s), but the following is from their web site at http://www.nankang.com.tw/html/eproduct.htm

I have had some quotes for tyres on the Scooby (standard 205 50 16 wheels). And was looking for some advice.

Firestones VR rated £76 each balanced fitted and VAT.

Pirreli V rated £83 each balanced fitted and VAT.

Continental V rated £86 each balanced fitted and VAT.

I need four and have Continental on now which seem quite good. I have been told the Firestones are good but very soft.

Are these good prices? should I avoid any of these.

Any comments appreciated.

You can get Toyo Proxes T1-S in 205/50/16 for around that price (I think my last set was £88 inc VAT and fitting). IMHO they are an excellent tyre, and most people on here seem to agree.

Falken FK451 tyres are rated by a lot of people here and only cost me £250 including vat and balancing

for sheer grip in the wet which toyos excel in,they are the best value for money tyre.
i can do toyos proxes T1s for £85 all in.

Toyo Proxies every time. To me they are the best value/performing tyre, I bought 4 off 215/40/17 for £330 fitted, last month. Great handling, ride and tread pattern looks cool. Wear rate also good.

Make sure that you go for z rated tyres where possible, scoobs are capable of going over 150mph quite easily

you get what you pay for falcons are a budget tyre which i found give ok performance
having driven a scoob with p zero neros on it ,and what a diference they made well worth 10 times what the falcons cost
falcons about 300 p zero nero about 500 on 18 s
the most inportant part of any performance car is getting the power down and for 200 extra its one of the cheapest mods you will make

I have had MAJOR problems with Falkens splitting!! I bought the new Hankook Y rated and they are superb for the money
