On my first track day I cracked some drilled Black Diamond discs with the Subaru 4 pots and Mintex 1155. They were replaced FOC with grooved ones.
On my second track day, I still have plenty of pad material but the brakes can be heard catching the disc as you drive along, and the sound disappears when you apply the brakes.
However, there is also more vibration through the pedal (yes they are grooved) but they still stop well enough.
I am careful to warm up and cool down and never have the brakes on whilst sitting in the pit lane, and I am driving the car a bit harder these days, but have never faded these.
If you say AP 6 pots I will cry, but it may be coming to that. Do they fit under 17s?
Godspeed are another option, but delivery times put me off - when I need brakes I need brakes and can't wait for weeks.

Have you tried re-facing the pads (assuming you didn't put new pads on with the new disks)? Might also be worth checking the runout on the disks. Does the vibration only happen when they get hot (I have that on mine, Grp N discs and DS3000 pads)? I have just bought some brake ducting that I'm going to run from the front of the car to cool the discs which will hopefully help.

I'll strip them and have a look. Yes I used new pads with the new discs. Is this a big brake kit Pete? £? Third track day tomorrow, I'll see how they stand up No cracks to see anyway.

Movit's Porsche GT3 kit will fit under some 17" wheels - can't remember UK importer name or know whether he has in stock though.
Good luck on track - and take spare discs/pads, lol!

One of them has a crack in them. Black Diamond grooved after one two hour track session. No fade, used only 1/4 a pad thickness, warmed up and cooled down properly. Seems to happen about 4 or 5 days AFTER the track day in both instances.

I used to run OK with grooved TarOx discs and DS2000 with standard calipers on track - just had to nurse them or suffer bad fade.
However, I then changed to ds2500 pads after the 2000's were out of stock, and lunched 2 sets of discs in 2 track days; original worn TarOx (warped on the day and cracked the next) and brand new OE discs (warped after 3 hard laps...didn't wait for them to crack).
How aggressive are your pads? The considerations for me when upgrading included pad/disc wear rate - the friends I have running the GT3 stuff use the original road-spec organic pad....and are still on them after 3 track days (discs still looking new). They stay very cool, comparitively speaking!
I'd say get a big kit and do it right 1st time - everything else is a compromise if you run regularly on track.

I use group n grooved pads, ds2500 or ds3000 pads and silkolene fluid. Haven't managed to kill mine yet. Have done a few trackdays + 97 laps of the ring. Not needed to replace the discs yet, but have used 2 sets of pads. OK, its only a Skoda and I probably drive like a granny, but this combination seems to work well.

John,
Just learn to drive like T-UK and use your tyres to scrub off speed
Doesn't Alan Garrod have AP 4-pots on his car? I was impressed with their stopping power when he took me out.
If you go for a full kit, you'll not see much change from £1500
Spend some money on driving lessons around Knockhill and learn how to carry as much speed as possible through the corners That's what I'll be doing before I venture out in my trusty steed

They are 1155 pads. Have some Tarox ones coming tomorrow and will go for another Black Diamond warranty claim - last time successful this time money back. I hope I have just been unlucky.
I already had some Knockhill instruction Ozzy is my driving that bad considering I have only done two track days? (probably is, but a lot better than it was believe me)
Thanks for the piccies Pete, will have a think.

Hi John,
It wasn't meant to be a criticism, so don't be offended I just think that anyone who wants to get the best out of their car should get proper tuition - and I don't mean a few laps with T-UK
Would love to come to Knockhill tonight now that I'm feeling better, but I'm off to Donegal tonight to watch the rallying.
Stefan

Hi John. If you want good brakes, you will have to pay. Some are cheaper than others, but they're all serious money. Just remember alloy bells, and bigger is better.
Having seen the way you drive I don't think anything but the very best will hold you down around Knockhill
My view: Godspeed are good, and very good value. ScoobySport's new kits sound promising, but unproven long-term. AP-Racing 6-pots cannot be beaten.
See you,
Richard.
PS I can feel a bigger turbo coming on... can't wait to hear how you get on with yours

Drilled discs are well known for cracking in track use. Possible exception is Porsche which are cast in holes not drilled. Drilled discs still do it in competition use, but largely get thrown away afterwards.

So whats the solution on the pads choice - I have AP 4 pots - I think the consensus is that its the DS2000 to go for and not anything above as it destroys the disks...
What do people use on the rear - I have Mintex and they screech like hell.....

IMHO, DS2500, no wouldn't have thought so. DS3000, possibly. Mine were OK with DS3000 but they squelaed like the guy in "Deliverance"! The 3000s wear the disc fairly quickly though as they are a very harsh pad.
