05 wrx front brake upgrade
Looking at up grading the front brakes on my wrx that is running STI wheels.
Looking at about £1000 area Options seam to be
Second hand STI brembo calipers then new discs and pads etc.
Kit that uses the wrx calipers with spacers etc to use a 335mm disc but again its using some used parts so might need calipers rebuilding as well
next option I have looked at is a kit with new brembo Radial mount calipers discs pads etc
Any one using the latter 2 options?
or any other options I have not found.

Godspeed do a Bbk with brembos and 2 piece discs for 999, at least it was 999 when I bought them, them, and decent dot 5 (rbf660 in my case) makes a world of difference over the standard setup

I also put the Brembo kit on my Hawkeye that fits under standard 17inch wheels and they are great and look the part. Talk to Godspeed. Ian from Godspeed has won rallies with the standard Subaru 4 pots so don't give up on them yet. Talk to Godspeed.

I have standard WRX brakes with Godspeed's grooved discs and kevlar pads all round. They are easily capable of locking the wheels on yokohama ado8r tyres with no noticeable fade on the road.
I'm not sure why people think the standard brakes need upgrading beyond being able to easily lock the wheels on sticky tyres for non-track use.
They were good value for money as well.

Kevlar pads yuck. I did try these and they were horrible.

I will admit I just upgraded and did not try any Pads or disks. The standard brakes when I bought the car faded so badly and the word on the internet is that they are not the best convinced me to just upgrade. Maybe trying different pad and disk combos would have worked to my liking, who knows.

This is the kit I bought:

It works fine for me, no fade so far, and as said can lock the wheels hot or cold on sticky tyres, which is the maximum braking you can achieve. IMO good value for money. The WRX has quite a progressive brake feel from standard but I prefer this to an on/off switch type overly assisted pedal. That's really the only reason I can see to alter with the system for road driving., but personally I wouldn't want to change that. Newer cars are often awful for this.
They can also supply kits with more track focused pads, new calipers etc.

As Ian from Godspeed has stated brakes are subjective and down to driver skill. All I can say is that the standard 4pots with OEM pads and disks was just plain dangerous. 3 roundabouts with a full throttle blast in between and they were done. Fade was horrible. I bought the Brembo Brake kit with two piece disks and PFC pads from Godspeed that fits under the 17inch wheels (smaller than STI calipers, I think they are off a Alpha 4C) and the difference is night and day. Never managed to fade these yet. Good luck with whatever you chose.

No it's not you , the kevlar pads are basically the first step up from standard , so suit those using the car as an everyday car , with some spirited driving at weekends , if you're a harder driver , then yes you can fade them , you just need to choose a pad for your driving style , there are plenty of different spec pads available to suit every driving style. We even say this on our website ,
I have the Kevlar pads all round in my T5 van , and I've had fade now and again driving over the mountain by us , but for a heavy van , and pushing out 270hp , I am surprised how well they do work , on my car , I have CL RC5+ pads fitted , and they work exceptionally .
Cheers Ian

OK its handy to know the new kit calipers are smaller than STI ones.
I did have the STI ones on my old classic with DS2500 pads they where good so know what to expect from them.
Did forget to say I am running Mintex 1144 pads at the moment hell of a lot better than what was in before, Always had fade on 3mile section on the way to work, But even now it doesn't pull up as fast as my classic did

any official PFC distributor would / could confirm that for you no problem at all and yes they definitely were available quite easily at one point..............
main issue was it was pricey and the perception was skewed by people falling out with the 4pot caliper so never really sold in large enough numbers to justify its longer term existence

I'm an official PFC distributor and I cant confirm it lol
Been selling PFC for years , and I've never seen a pair , and they don't offer Z rated pads for the Subaru 4 pots , but we have machined shape pads to fit them
Cheers Ian

Been onto PF this morning and yes they still do them , in there own admission , they don't remember the last time they sold a pair , and at £799 a pair retail I can't see why !
They are slightly smaller at 293mm , and slightly thicker at 25mm
They have a pair in stock
