Default Summer Tyre recommendations

What's the current summer tyre flavour of the month? Currently have Nokian winters and I'm about to refresh the suspension so want some new tyres for the summer (will switch back to the winters when the temps drop again).

Looking for 215-225/45/17s. Car is daily driver only, so no track-special, semi-slick tyres please. Price irrelevant. Want something with great all round dry and wet performance. Michelin Pilot Super Sports and Conti SC5s seem to being winning all the latest awards. However, I'm struggling to find the Michelin's in the right size and it sounds like Conti's are only good for about 5k.

Any suggestions welcome (I'd like a stiffer side-wall if possible).

MPSS is about as good as it gets before you go to track-biased tyres...ZE914 and Hankook V12 not bad mid-range options but MPSS is in another class. IMO the Eagle F1's soft sidewall does not suit an Impreza.

The stock STI tires are amazing and have a stupid stiff sidewall, 140 treadwear, wear great and grip in the wet: bridgestone RE070

Michelin website states that they make a MPSS in 215/45/17 size but I can't find them on sale anywhere - any ideas?

Used to run F1's on my 205's - great tyre. Not sure though whether they would suit an Impreza with extra weight and turn-on forces.

I'd just had a look and I can't find the MPSS either in 215/45/17 or 225/45/17. I haven't actually tried them on an Impreza but have had good experiences with other vehicles. They appear to be mostly available in 18-inch plus sizes.

As an alternative suggestion, you could consider Vredestein Sessanta. Not as good as the MPSS but very capable and well priced at the moment.

I found the Goodyear f1 to feel strange when 1st fitted; but settled after a day or so. After the initial bouncy feeling they were great and gripped well wet or dry.

Hi there

Depends if its classic or new age ?
If its classic then I would go with Toyo T1R,if its new age I wouldn't choose T1R as they're bit on soft side on the new age as they're better suited on lighter cars than heavier new age

We are run Contisport 3 and 4 on our wagon and they never been best if I can say that very mildly, they performed good in wet and in dry,but we are never have confidence with them

Then we are tried Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta which has been best,we are been very surprised with performance,we didn't expected anything extra from them, but excellent grip in dry or wet and on track has been good too..

But best so far tyres on summer I would have look on Hankook V12 or Michelin PS3,then you have better tyres like Hankook RS3,R888,AD08/A048 etc which are more semi slick tyres, but they usually last as normal tyres,we are done on R888 5k miles and they still have lots of thread and we are used them on daily basis and on rack too

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura
