Default Hammerite spray

Hi all

I'm painting my SC 6 pots using Hammerite, but the thing I am finding is the sharp edges of the caliper don't hold the paint at all? The flat surfaces are fine but the edges just don't want to hold.

I haven't used any primer, should I have?

I am using the spray can version, and I have fully removed previous paint and de greased the calipers

Anyone got any tips for getting around this?

No need to primer but have found by experience the caliper paint is thicker in consistency so hence it adheres to the sharp corners better and to be honest I would do it by hand with a brush rather than spray can as you can load up the paint

Also if you have a heat gun to hand , after the coats give it a good waft over to heat and seal the paint , just don't get too close or if you are a bit clumsy use a hair dryer

Paint not sticking on rthe corners usually means you are too close with the spray.

I, too, have had decent results that end up LOOKING sprayed, using a small brush (1/2") and Hammerite from the tin...DO stir well.

And don't forget Hammerite brush cleaner, although:

TIP: Brushes used for hammerite CAN be cleaned without special thinners, pour some cooking oil into the palm of you hand, work the brush in it, rinse with water, wash out with washing up liquid. done.
