Graphics via ODB2 Readings
Ive seen video displays

to have AV/HDMI connectable video inputs into your sun visor....
I have seen the odd advert for Itouch/IPhone linkups to ODB2 connector and routes the video through the software on the IT/IP from the ODB2 data to the video screen, giving a gorgeous graphics representation of the speed/revs/oil pressure/boost pressure (everything that the ECU manages) into a visual display that is readable.

Although I think the cost will be a few hundred pounts, its going to be cheaper than pods and gauges and fitting plus, you can change the skin of the display so your graphical gauges look different when your mood changes.
Has anyone done this and if so, what are you using and where did you get it from? I quite fancy the visor display as (1) I havent got to remove my CD unit from the dash and (2) I can fit it myself, probably... LMAO and (3) its cheap as chips, though I dont know what the quality of the visor will be like when its fitted. It certainly looks cool and different...

I'd be very surprised if the whole setup was cheaper and easier than pods! Not sure where you've got your prices from but it shouldn't be more than a couple of hundred quid (unless you're going for the Defi HUD stuff...)
You can't just plug the ODB port into a screen, it has to go through some sort of computer first that will interoperate the data and process the images.
The route I'm going is having a small computer (like a home PC, but smaller) in the boot linked to a monitor on the dash. You can then get various different ODB port readers that send the data to the PC.
You can probably get 'boxes' that just do the reading/processing stuff, but I can see them being rather expensive.
There's quite likely an iPod/iPhone app you can get too that can receive data from a wireless ODB reader, but they you've got to get the data from the i-Whatsit to your screen, unless you dash-mount the i-Whatsit and squint at that whilst driving...
