Angry Driving the Red Clio on M40 (Tw@t) today

It may have escaped your attention, but the roads were somewhat treacherous this morning on account of a white substance falling from the sky called "snow".

If your pea-brain actually has the capacity to process any thought, you might want to take note that in these conditions it is dangerous to speed, and even more ludicrous to chop and change lanes on a motorway, undertaking people.

What possessed you to decide to undertake the Forester in front of you, when there was room in the outside lane is beyond me, and the fact that you cut infront of me, with no warning, covering my windscreen in a wave of blinding brown slush was even more dangerous.

I suggest you do the world a favour and take the bus, instead of endangering other drivers with your moronic driving.

Hi,
I have owned a laguna V6 (24v) for 4 years now and have always been amazed how badly impreza's handle in the snow. This matched with their poor straight line performance leads me to question why everyone is not driving the french dream.
I suspect that you were upset to see that the Clio had the ability to change lane without spinning off the road into a ditch...

It's because some people have taste. Unlike people who drive French cars.

Stop trolling!

If you look further down the page to 'suspect driving on the M1' you will see exactly what I mean. This man was not driving recklessly, he was merely out of control!!

Unfortunately the human-like species, known by the Latin of Biggus Muppettus is freely able to choose and drive all manner of vehicle, from Clios, through Lagunas () and even Imprezas...

I doubt the driver of the Clio is on here though, as it would mean he could actually read.

Having driven Impreza Turbo's of various descriptions over the last 8 years or so, I have never experienced any inability to perform and handle in winter conditions..

The French Dream is of course a nightmare, of which you are probably experiencing as you day-dream at your desk, the only cars of any worth that Renault have any say in the construction or design of, are of course Nissans.

Oh and try and keep up will you when driving in a straight line!

Question

Mr Renault man, why would you suggest that Impreza's have poor straight line speed when my bog standard one will 0-60 in 5.5secs?
Don't know much about cars do you?
What are you doing on here anyway??

Judging by his total posts... one would have to suspect he is someone else on here normally, but fancied a bit of trolling under a different name.

If not...

Default Easy boys..

Mr Speedymiser - Your a tad superior in your views...

Driving a Laguna has many plus points:
1. You can drive by without other Laguna drivers waving at you (this may account for some of the erratic driving).
2. You can hear to radio when on the motorway.
3. You can park it outside the pub and know that it will be there when you return.
4. If you pick up a girl over 18 she will like the comfort of the sumptuous rear seats.
5. Even the 3 litre wil go for 400 miles on a tank.

The down sides are as follows:
1. Not much contact with mis spelling teenage boys.
2. No Lagunanet web page
3. Having to hold back on the motorway so that you guys feel special.
4. No admiring glances from the schoolies.
5. A clean licence in a -6 sec modified, standard looking car.

Lets be open minded that there are other cars on the road.

some monkey in a Laguna sat on my tail for 100yards on M4 at 100mph, nearly pushed me out of the way. Was very quick when he got going, but terrible salesrep driving! Was it you?

2. no lagunanet web page
in case you havnt noticed this is a subaru related bbs, for owners or enthusiasts of subaru impreza's and the like........

.........so WTF are you doing here if you dont rate them and saying they're shyte, IMHO your gonna get flamed to death.

Also for what its worth, theres a very mixed range of ages on this board, some drive std scoobs, some drive modded scoobs.

I'll also second speedmeisters point, i have an Sti5, hardly modded and it will more than likely do 0-60 in sub 5 secs and quite possibly over 160 mph - how is that a slow straight line speed

Talking Could be.

Didn't mean to offend if it was , I was only trying to get into work if it was. I did pass a green Impreza (smoking a bit as it tried to pull away) and I did wave to thank him for pulling over to let me through. He didn't wave back as he was in hell with all of that exhaust noise.
Anyway the weekends coming and he will be able to get out on the road with the other lane hogging Sunday drivers. I give a wave and a toot if I see you again.
PS - Nice to find a friendly Scooby owner.

Driving a Laguna has many plus points:
1. You can drive by without other Laguna drivers waving at you (this may account for some of the erratic driving).

Just illustrates how dull these run-of-the-mill French cars are, that no-one notices you - probably explains the number of crashes involving them - people simply fail to recognise that the bland shape approaching is actually a car.

2. You can hear to radio when on the motorway.

It's a shame all Laguna's can only receive Radio 4 though. I'd prefer to listen to MP3s in my car.

3. You can park it outside the pub and know that it will be there when you return.

Just a shame that you fail to comprehend the dangers of drinking and driving, and just waft along in your rep-mobile, killing children, animals and anything else that wanders into your path.

4. If you pick up a girl over 18 she will like the comfort of the sumptuous rear seats.

That's because the car is so dull to look at, any girl being "picked up" assumes it is a taxi, and gets into the back.

5. Even the 3 litre wil go for 400 miles on a tank.

It would go further, and be more appreciated by the public, if it were mounted on the gun of the tank, and then blown back over to France.

Default Good reply

Top reply Duckie...You've proved that you are not all quackers.

It's good that we can jibe with these impreza drivers. I admire a man who drives a Forester. If your driving tractors you may as well have one that you can get stuff in at the weekends. Up the oldies (how do you get up with the terms that these young chaps use).

Aye, I agree that banter on here should be in good humour, afterall, life's too short to be serious all the time...

PS - who is this man you admire in the Forester? Does he know you have the hots for him?

PPS - I drive an Impreza Turbo

Default Have a good weekend

I have had great fun on here today. I have been toying with the idea of buying either a P1 or an FQ300. The guy down the Mitsubushi dealership said that I should take a look at this web page and then decide if I still wanted to buy a P1. Sorry guys but I will be trading in the mighty Renult for an EVO. I have a business to run and need the car to reflect that I am a grown up.

PS- The Renult was really quick, I was not kidding about the speed. It was a -6 sec, 150 mph (even as standard) monster. If you ever want a fast car that the cops wont notice buy one.

PS- I hope that if there is ever an EVONET they will not be worried about how people drive their Clios.

See you all later.

There is an evo board... And your dealer would (I'd have thought) instructed you to look at that too, if you're serious.

Here

Personally, if I had the cash, I'd get the P1, as it is a classic already, is far more "mature" IMHO than any EVO or pretty much any other Impreza, and is unlikely to lose much more in depreciation.

Oh, and if you do go down the route of a specialist performance Japanese car, you may start to be more concerned with cretins in cheaper models nearly crashing into you, when your dealer tells you that the parts needed to get your pride and joy back on the road after the crash, will take 8 weeks to come from Japan.

Have a nice weekend.

Pity your behaviour and puerile comments have proven that you are incapable of acting like one!

You want to think twice about changing your current 'car' for an Evo though, the mini-cab business will suffer with all that time it'll be off the road for servicing...

If you think sub 6 seconds is really quick then I very much doubt you will be able to cope with an Evo, so do us all a favour and get a white van, I'm sure that's much more your style, oh and ask permission before you use the internet again!

foresters are really good cars IMHO. And i do always wave when i see someone driving one (unless they look 65+), but this waving thing is more of a polite way of acknowledging another driver of a decent marque, thats probably why laguna drivers don't do it! lol

Now here's a car that any right minded Impreza owner would/should tip his cap to!
Megane Renaultsport 225
[March 12 2004]

http://www.topgear.com/

In the past, talk of a Renault hot hatch 'shaking that ***' would have been followed by sad sobs of how the poor thing then had to be dragged rather unceremoniously out of a ditch/hedge/field (delete as appropriate).

Remember the Turbo I and II - the motorised equivalent of Russian roulette? Or the more mass market, but just as twitchy in the wrong hands, 5 GT Turbo...

These days, the tail of Renault's latest hot hatch is the topic of conversation for decidedly different reasons. If the Megane's voluptuous rear is booty-liscious, then RenaultSport's 225 firecracker is J-Lo in a thong with, well, precious little else to guard against the elements.

No doubt about it, the Renaultsport sorts have transformed the mainstream hatch with a modernist twist into something that appeals to man's (and boy racer's) more primeval instinct. The meatier look gives the feeling that this is a hatch you could really sink your teeth into - rather like J-Lo's aforementioned derriere.

It's knowing that there's the hardware beneath to back up the surface visuals, though, that's the really good bit. We're talking the sort of figures that'll send a shiver down the spine of any Focus RS driver: 225bhp and 221 Ib/ft, with 90 per cent of the latter ready to thump you in the back from just 2,000rpm. The secret to this is a development of Renault's 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine, complete with some reworking of the internals and a new twin-scroll turbo charger - which virtually eliminates the dreaded lag.

Now, normally, presenting engineers with such a head-scratcher would end with the sort of bang we can only imagine Beagle II experienced. But in this case, substantial reworking of the front suspension and steering, wider tracks, plus damn clever traction control and stability control systems, means the RenaultSport 225 goes just as well around corners as it does in a straight line.

For outright speed, the thing is pretty much untouchable. Certainly, it's faster than the Focus RS. (Find our how we know in the June edition of TG mag...) But not just with your foot to the floor. With six tightly spaced ratios, there's effortless overtaking power on tap from just 2,000rpm. But scream it to the red line and the special twin-outlet exhaust system sounds the part.

Truth be told though, the 225 isn't much of a screamer. So those after the ultimate adrenalin rush had better look elsewhere. The engine's as refined and smooth as it is responsive, the ride comfort has that wonderfully relaxed French, fluid feel, with great bump absorption, and the body rolls a touch more than you'd expect. What's more, the speed-sensitive power steering could do with a faster-acting ratio for the rack.

Still, it'll cover ground staggeringly quickly, and it's great to see that efforts to tune the ESP system to stay out of the picture for as long as possible have resulted in interference-free cornering, and that the uprated Brembo-sourced brakes are up to the job, even if the pedal feels over-servoed. Push hard and the 225 displays a pleasing degree of passive rear steer effect, helping keep everything nice and neutral, eventually pushing into a four-wheel drift.

All the while you'll be sat comfortably, and safely, onboard. Great part-leather seats, spruced up dials, aluminium pedals and - thank you Renault - an aluminium footrest and the no-cost option of Terry's Chocolate Orange-colour stitching make it one of the best equipped, best interiors around. Regardless of whether it's a three or five-door.

OK, so it's no Focus RS, but it was never supposed to be in the first place. Its provocative rump might shake the RenaultSport logo at all who follow, but the 225 hangs on to the principles that made the existing Megane such a fine family car in the first place.

There's less of the ########, more of the hardware. Think of it as the first five-star NCAP, ISOFIX-friendly super fast hatch which all the family can enjoy and you'll be on the right track. It's a hot hatch, but not as we know it.
