my 94 wrx problem
What do you guys think of my engine problem:
The car is currently with a local specialist, Its had overheating problems when we bought the car and on a test drive today it spat all its water out on pressure, on closer inspection the thermostat has been removed and the garage are thinking its the water pump possibly? the coolant block test and head test has been done and passed the car drives lovely in the garages words. what you guys reckon??
suspect water pump or heater matrix??
car is in good hands at ACE motorsport so it will be sorted by them .
just after general ideas off you guys as i aint sure lol .

Hope this problem does not cost you a lot of dosh.
This as happened to other buyers before, it can be done to hide problems but if you think about it why would you remove a very important item like the thermostat?
I would not have bought it if it had indicated a overheating problem on the test drive.

I think there could be a lot more to the problem than meets the eye, I'd be very way of why the thermostat was removed in the first place as to me that is very suspicious.
I think that has been done to mask another more serious problem, I hope that it isn't as I know from personal experience that it can be a very expensive repair to put right.
Good luck and I hope I'm wrong.

yes seems like the previous owner removed it to sort the overheating. there was talk of a new engine going in, but the car passed the coolant block test at ACE so there cant be any block/head issues can there?? anyway im going to keep trying with this problem first before we need to consider a new engine.
speaking to midnight on here im going to try a new water pump and thermostat test drive it and see. then look at the heater matrix.
what you guys think? gotta be worth a go ain't it.
on the test drive and under normal driving the car drives fab sounds lovely runs sweet and starts first turn of the key, even rhys at ACE commented on how sweet it is. when i bought the car and driving it home from bridgend there was no problems what so ever and went like stink to be fair.

Does the water overflow when cold? if it only does it when hot could possibly be water pump even though its not a common problem, the heater matrix would not cause overheating or pressure in the cooling system.
If it pumps out from cold a head gasket would most likely be the cause unfortunately.
