If the OP wants to stick with the OE ECU then an Ecutek remap is the way to go, if this is what he wants then I would suggest Bob Rawle from personal experience.
As above Bob Rawle is in Swindon but will travel down.

Dean, unless the OP wants to go with a daughterboard such as ESL or an aftermarket ECU such as Simtek, Alcatek, Syvecs etc then those are the only options for Duncan to remap the OP's car as there is no Open Source mapping system for classics.

To be 100% sure, if you look at ur engine if the coil pack is mounted in the middle of the inlet manifold then its a version 4, if it is mounted to the right hand side of the inlet manifold then its a version 5.
Version 4 engine:
Version 5 (which has a mappable ECU):

Yeah v5/6 MAFs are very fragile I had a Blitz SUS kit on mine and was going through a MAF about every 6 months at one point not good when there bout £80...
The next time my car was mapped I changed to an Apexi intake and never had a problem with the MAF with that
I'm not a fan of HKS filters never had one on my Subaru but my EVO had one on when I bought, which I changed to a large K&N.

It's not the fact he has an induction kit, I've always had them on my cars, It's the fact it's a HKS one, Proved to be the worse kind of filter there is and it's a matter of WHEN the MAF fails not if it will.
Big Daz got through 4 Maf's in a weekend with one of them crappy HKS filters.

The 99/00 MAF sensors are basically made from chocolate and are one of the weak areas on an overwise strong set up, when I had my MY00 I always kept the oem air box on for this reason. As said above my advice would be to get an oem box back on there, either from a breaker or drop a wanted on here you should get one quite easy then drop a dry filter in and the jobs a good one or as Dean and Danny have said drop a better quality kit on it.
