We don't offer any re-mapping on the 99 and below ECU's. However we can do the ESL daughter board for £549 including supplying, fitting and mapping.

Where about in Neath are you from? I'm from Neath myself.

Dean, unless the OP wants to go with a daughterboard such as ESL or an aftermarket ECU such as Simtek, Alcatek, Syvecs etc then those are the only options for Duncan to remap the OP's car as there is no Open Source mapping system for classics.

If the OP wants to stick with the OE ECU then an Ecutek remap is the way to go, if this is what he wants then I would suggest Bob Rawle from personal experience.

99 should be a version 5 so should be mappable with ECUTEK
It's version 4 (98) and older that require the daughter board fitting.

You don't need to do that for a 99 (version 5) car which yours looks like from the pic of ur car....
To be 100% sure, if you look at ur engine if the coil pack is mounted in the middle of the inlet manifold then its a version 4, if it is mounted to the right hand side of the inlet manifold then its a version 5.

Version 4 engine:

Version 5 (which has a mappable ECU):

First thing I would do is bin that crappy HKS(Style) induction kit. Well known to kill MAF sensors.

Fit a dry cotton type - K&N, green cotton etc

Change it before the car is remapped mate, changing the air filter effects the way the air flows through the MAF sensor and can effect the map which could cause the engine to run lean and det....

its the v5/6 mafs that are fragile, stick with a panel filter in my opinion, newage mafs are better.

Yeah v5/6 MAFs are very fragile I had a Blitz SUS kit on mine and was going through a MAF about every 6 months at one point not good when there bout £80...
The next time my car was mapped I changed to an Apexi intake and never had a problem with the MAF with that
I'm not a fan of HKS filters never had one on my Subaru but my EVO had one on when I bought, which I changed to a large K&N.

It's not the fact he has an induction kit, I've always had them on my cars, It's the fact it's a HKS one, Proved to be the worse kind of filter there is and it's a matter of WHEN the MAF fails not if it will.

Big Daz got through 4 Maf's in a weekend with one of them crappy HKS filters.

The 99/00 MAF sensors are basically made from chocolate and are one of the weak areas on an overwise strong set up, when I had my MY00 I always kept the oem air box on for this reason. As said above my advice would be to get an oem box back on there, either from a breaker or drop a wanted on here you should get one quite easy then drop a dry filter in and the jobs a good one or as Dean and Danny have said drop a better quality kit on it.
