Default fair price?

the bonnet scoop and little vents on my car need a respray, the laquer is peeling off them and they look terrible,i went to a couple of body shops today for a quote, the best price i had was £80 to remove vents and scoop sand off old laquer and respray does this seem like a decent price?,the other place wanted what i considered a laughable £200+vat.its amazing how much the price of things can vary does anyone know what the going rate for a job like this is?

£80 sounds resonable for all the labour involved.

would it not be better/cheaper for you to remove them yourself and just drop them into the bodyshop to sort out
it would half the labour time,

the other thing you have to think about is taking it to a body shop that mixes there own paint
im saying this as they can make up just enough to do your job where other bodyshops that dont mix there own have to buy 1/4 or 1/2 liters as a minimum from there supplyers

It takes time to do things rite and you get what you pay for, £80 sounds cheep, id be looking at between £100-£125+vat depending on condition of parts, that includes 3-4 hrs labour (at £25 ph) and £25 p&m, + vat, i'd leave the items on the car, it doesnt take much to remove them and if the car is there they have a better chance to get a good colour match as most colour codes will have several different colour variants to choose from.

i the cheep quote was to just re-laquer not completely repaint,my only worry is that the difference in colour between vent and bonnet will be noticeable.

Personally i´d be worried about the cheap one, better to pay a bit more for a job well done, imagine if they bodge it, its gonna cost a bit to get it resprayed. I need to get the same job done i´ve been quoted 200euros from a really good body shop here in malaga

Thats the problem with metalic/pearl colours, thats why we allways blend them but would be abit extream to blend bonnet and wings for the sake of a slight mis match, aslong as correct variant is chosen it should'nt be to bad.

my mate old man has been spraying for years and i got a price off him to sort out the laquer peel on a bmw. 100 - 150 depending how bad it was underneath. and i know his work is quality.
so the price of £80 just to do 3 little things cant be bad
