Idle blipping !!??
Hi All - anyone know why this is happening, just started the car up after about a week with no use, as the engine started the choke seemed quite high, at about 1,800 revs, then I assume went off, as the car approached midway on the temp gauge, it started to blip from 1,000rpm to 1,100rpm, sounded like someone was blippng the throttle - any ideas ???

It normally "hunts" between 500 and 1400 rpm. It's a regular surge and decline in rev's. If this is what you mean by regular then it could be the problem.
Try reseting the ECU as you have just changed it and see where it goes.
A quick test is to disconnect the MAF while the engine is running, if it still runs it's 99.9% fooked! The ECU as learnt to run without the MAF. If it dies like John Wayne then
Sorry but I hope this helps.

Well I unplugged the maf connector - car nearly spluttered and died, but then revs increased and continued running with maf dis-connected, re-connected dipped and spluttered again, before idling again, but not idling too badly at the moment ??? not driven it for a min, but will to see how it behaves in traffic...............................

I have disconected the replacement Maf and the car dies on start up still blips the only thing I have done to the car is fit a Boost gauge (stepper type) "T"d off at the Dump Valve Vacuum hose, which I can feel a vacuum "suckin" on the end of my finger, which I assume is what should be happening, Should the car have been re-set in some way after I fitted the "new" Maf sensor ?? is this why it is behaving in the same way

Hi No the light stays on - I tried slightly revving with the "blips" but it didn't do much, my hopes were pinned on the Maf, but have been told it may be the idle control valve - just hopimg for a definitive answer to the problem, hoping it's not going to be one problem with a load of maybe's !let me know how you get on if you can

I have just been out in it and although performance seems OK it's idling crap and when coming to lights etc, wants to over idle to around 2k-2.5k revs !! it's like it wants to accelerate itself, bit like herbie flippin annoying The CEL wasn't on initially but soon came on again after the run................

Sorry to be boring !! but just thought I'd report on the this issue which seems to have resolved on it's own - after the initial problem started a short 8-10 mile run saw it idle all over the place, just before turning it off idling at 2.5k !!!! anyway 2 subsequent short runs in the car have been great, idles now at a steady 800 !! So can only guesstimate that the car's ECU has "re-learnt" some settings and settled itself ????????????????? if that's what is does..........
