Bike plate totally legal

Well a tad bigger and it's written in the big book of laws but you'll always get a funny flucker who will try it on or doesn't know the law themselves.

Just print off a copy of the requirements from the dvla and keep it in your car to show the copper at the time.

I got a copy somewhere and will try find the thread tomorrow, sure it was on a supra forum from where I got the info

If you do get a lot of unwanted grief why not use a standard uk plate / numbers and shave the width a little. Some of my other customers have used the same position as the Mitsi Evo uses towards the n/s end of the bumper.
If you do want to mount there I think I've got a JDM plate holder there somewhere that'll probably never be used by me

If it's a UK car you have to use a standard sized UK plate.

If it's an import you can go smaller.

^^ This ^^

Bike sized digits can only be use on imports. Having said that I ran a bike sized plate on my classic for 6 years with no bother from the police!!

You can cut you standard numberplate down provided you leave 11mm between the edge of the digits and the edge of the plate. This way you'd be 100% legal.

Oh if your car is from 2001 or later you need the manufacturer name/postcode and BS number on show, although it would take an **** copper to do you for not having those on!!

A lot of people run smaller letters (for imports) and get away with it but it is not actually legal and if a copper who knows the law properly pulls you then you could still get done for it.

The regulations state that imported cars may display number plates with smaller characters if: a) The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval and b) The construction/design of the vehicle cannot accommodate standard size number plates.

I don't think you could say that the construction of an Impreza cannot accommodate a standard size number plate when they make a UK version which does have standard size fitted to it.

Needs 11mm around all of the letters to make it legal and at least 33mm between groups. My front plate was made slightly off with only 10mm gap at the top and the subaru marked it down on my MOT as advisory and must be changed. In theory I can get fined by the plod for it.
