JT Innovations says hello!
Hi all.
I've been on here for over nearly 13 years (as TimH) and earlier in the year I formed a new company specialising in innovative products for fellow petrolheads.
We launched our new website over the weekend, where you can read more about us and visit our shop
Right now we have just a handful of cable assemblies, mainly targeting users of the Syvecs ecu (for now) and especially in relation to plug-and-play connection of lambda sensors. But I'm open to product suggestions for anything that makes fitting of aftermarket ecus (Syvecs, Simtek, Motec etc) easier
However, the most exciting product we have will be launched in just a few months:
This unit, the size of a small Sat-Nav connects to the engine management system and provides a range of “soft” gauges on a single screen. A simple “touch” on any of the small gauges causes a full screen version to be displayed.
Neat, simple, and effective! And very much easier to install than individual gauges, simply needing power and a data connection to the ecu.
I've made a rather rubbish video of the prototype in operation, which you can see here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBSpn...er_profilepage
Although the first versions are intended for the Syvecs, it won't be long before we have versions for Simtek and also OEM ecus, connecting via OBDII.
Watch this space!

Absolutely
I'm open to suggestions, but my current plan is that, as standard, it will come with a sat nav type windscreen mount.
The rear plate has slots for the "4 prong" mount type, meaning there are a whole host of accessories available for permanent or removable mounting. I hope to be able to offer a range myself (that was one of the tasks for today )
There is a single connector that attaches the cable to the rear, so it can be permanently wired in, but still removable for security.

Yes, it gets all the data direct from the ecu, assuming the data is available!!
The reason I say that is that (for example) oil temperature and pressure sensors are not usually wired to a Syvecs or Simtek. You can do that (I'm about to on mine), in which case the data will be available to the touchscreen unit.
But that's messy as it involves hacking in to the engine loom, so early next year we will launch an "expansion unit" that will plug directly to the back of the display unit. The expansion unit can be hidden away somewhere convenient, and you can wire other sensors directly to it Plug and Play is what I want to provide
Oh, and we'll stock sensors too, of course

Once the OBDII version is up and running I'll get more actively involved on that forum and work out the best way of hooking in to the OS maps to provide a nice interface

Since I've not had a classic for more than 10 years: can you tell me if you need a replacement fascia unit to fit a replacement double DIN unit?
I could certainly look at generic double DIN (7"x4"/177x101mm) unit, if I assume replacement fascia/fitting kits are available
One thing to bear in mind is that the display I use has a visible area of 71mm wide by 54mm tall: in a double DIN plate, that leaves quite a lot of blank space: here's a quick mock-up of how it would sit in a 7"x5" housing:
Obviously I can design for a bigger display, but right now I obviously need to get the existing version finished before embarking on a new version of the electronics: mechanics are easier/quicker, so if I can remount the existing module then no worries it can be done quickly
I could shoehorn 2 displays in to that plate, and double the number of gauges, but that would make for a £700-ish unit which I don't think would be that appealing?
I'll also trawl through all the LCD catalogues to see if, by any chance, there's a larger display that will just plug straight in: I doubt it, but I'll look

Just seen this, like the sound of plug and play for other gauges and switching maps on syvecs, will keep my eyes on this.
Would be good if it had an output that could put the display onto a double din screen just for viewing
