It was my first ever SIDC trackday. What a laugh. What a circuit. Well done Stef and thanks for letting me play.

I was running on an worn set of SO2's and they had an appalling lack of grip. They understeered for England (or should that be Japan?). No matter what I tried I ended up with horrible squeely understeer. Was it me, the tyres or could i have some other problem?

I was in a bog standard WRX.

Donnington sounds appealing if i can sort out the understeer.

The track was very slippery in the morning which wouldn't help, but understeer can also be reduced by driving in a different way.
I was running with Toyo Proxes at 48psi and suffered no understeer at all, except first thing. SO2's should be as good if not better.

What tyre problems?

I was running part worn SO2's @ 35psi & I had the most completely neutral handling ever

OK - so I have Leda (clicks 15F & 10R) & virtually Prodrive settings but could put the car into a corner hard & I would get all 4 drifting at the same time, eminently controlable. In fact, I had great fun pushing <I>too</I> hard into corners & playing with the results, never once feeling as if I was loosing it. U/steer? Nah!

Also, 140 miles & no great wear on the n/side, which is unusual for me. In fact, I should get 2 more track days from that set

I was driving with several approaches - eg cascades - 3rd gear in 4th out or 4th gear in and out/ Druids 3rd in 4th out or 4th in and out. All good controllable fun, but unless I was left foot braking,trail braking into,or reverse flicking into, for instance Esso, there was just understeer everywhere. I did all four shoulders on the tyres in.

Looking at other folks tyres I saw none of this.

This was only my second track day, first one was donno (Feb00) in MY98 with new SO2s @36psi, only did half a day and must have taken half the tread off. At Oulton (MY00) was on new Eagle F1s @38psi and they stood up really well. The guy who was driving with me was an ex police driving instructor and he was really impressed with the improvement on the standard brakes over the MY98 ones but thought the gearbox was worse.

I was on part worn SO2s (f40/r37) and likewise got no understeer, except when hit the mud on the track before Shell Oils after the DGM had gone off. Did get a bit of oversteer though

Fortunate to collar RobMac early on and got superb advice. Have never felt the diff working like it did during and after his instruction. Fabulous also great pointers on what to 'aim' for on track for best line/exit - BIG thanks Rob
