Default HELP!!!!04STIppp?replacement rear shocks options?

Hey folks.

I have developed a rattle in the rear suspension of my 04 sti ppp. Brought to dealers and they say i need a new set of rear shocks.

I havent a clue whats the best thing to do next. Dealer is quoting £600 for two new shocks...but are going to pay for one of them so cost to me is £300.. What is the best solution....would like to have it lowered bit too?

I see suspension kits online for 600 or 700 quid...is that per shock?

What is a Coilover kit?

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Stevie

**** that mate you can get 2 X KYB ultra shocks delivered to your door for £210. And they are the same as the subaru ones but in gold. and fit them yourself. Very easy.

Great guys. will def go for one of those options...(next month..lol) Is there much to fitting them? do i need special tools to compress the springs or anything?

Is a coilover a shock with the spring pre fitted?

Thanks folks

No "special" tools per se, but it's handy to have a good socket set, spanners and general tools. A trolley jack is an almost essential I'd say, as you need to support and raise/lower the hubs to match up with the bottom of the new struts.

Are they the ones with the springs already fitted?......yeah....smaller diameter springs and much more adjustability and adaptability than normal (for example) KYB's.

I was in the same situation as you, but my front struts were knocking. I chose the Apex/BC coilovers as they were a good price and had very good reviews; I couldn't afford/justify something like AST's.......I got new discs and pads all round too, and still spent less than a set of AST's......much less

dont forget a decent alignment setup will be required after changing the shocks.

Yep, a coilover is simply a damper with spring fitted so technically the original units are actually coilovers but the term is usually used specifically regarding units running a smaller diameter spring usually with at least adjustable spring platform, nearly always with damping adjustment and (with the better designed units if you want maximum flexibility), adjustable bottom mounts.
