IMHO:
Only have experience of AST's and AVO units, so i'm with AST's.
I doubt you will find an unbiased point of view (from me as well tbh) as everyone feels they chose/bought the best, but i have NO issues with my 2 sets of AST's over the last 3 years of road/competition use, or with the supplier, Power Station.
Just call them and click to Curtis, their AST man.

All down to spring rates and tuning the damping.
For a nice road car, choose 50/40.
For a track bias car, 60/50 spring rates.
If you take the single adjustable AST's then you can dial the damping really easy.
To get the best from them you need some Whiteline parts and an expert alignment technician.
Go to the Power Station web site and read all about it.

You should also talk with Graham at exe-tc. I spoke with him a couple months ago and would have already purchased a set of the Fast Road Adjustable's except my motor blew on my wagon. I think exe's approach is different than most coilover designers and their offerings while on the high side are very very worth it from what I've read and experiences from exe owners.

We are replacing a number of AST setups with EXE-TC at the moment so should have a good back to back comparison.

Thanks for that. Not that I was on the fence or anything about purchasing the exe-tc's. Just that as a yank this setup is rediculously expensive for us.
Which exe-tc kits are you selling mostly?
cheers

In terms of ride with proper control I would say as above. For ride with a good sporty feel and generally good handling, the ASTs are good VFM. If you can afford the EXE-TC, then I would certainly go with it. If you want to do a lot of track stuff, then EXE-TC is deffo the way to go, although the AST 3 way adjustable is keenly priced.

FAO Zen Performance !!!!!
You stated in the post above ...... "We are replacing a number of AST setups with EXE-TC at the moment so should have a good back to back comparison".
Can I ask do you have any feedback yet as I'm inteested in purchasing some EXE-TC's ? Also do you happen to have a demo car with these fitted so I could have a passenger ride before committing to purchase ?
Cheers !

I have Exe-TC Fast Road on my sti5
They are absolutely fine on the circuit, I had too many issues with the std suspension on track - i.e. bloody useless
(My car has just under 500bhp so fairly mildly modded for a track car I might add)
At softest of the 40 settings they are slightly harder than std. I havent needed to put them on hardest setting yet
Height adjustment is easy
I havent been in a car with AST's but compared to Leda's that I had on a Cosworth the Exe-tc's and centuries ahead

AST's are fantastic shocks for the money, whether that is the single way or 3 way adjustable ones.
Not sure of the validity of any build question.... I don't care what my shocks look like, but considering these are coilovers (and we all know what coilovers of old used to be like) they have never required any servicing in over 14000 miles (apart from the very occasional spray of silicon on the insert). They were stripped down and rebuilt the other month, but only because I had them off to fit new springs, and there was no wear at all on the insert or seals.
Personally, I was very impressed.
Regards,
Shaun

What about these lovely things?
Taken from our friends at iwst.
Ohlins Fixed Perch Strut Kit are a great alternative to coilovers. They are 25 way adjustable, for compression and rebound simultaneously.
Great option for those looking to increase performance with out sacrificing ride quality. This is a choice for weekend warriors that still like to enjoy a comfortable ride on the weekdays.
They are used with stock or after market stock location springs. And with stock style top hats.
Include 2 front and 2 rear struts.

Exe-tc win hands down had them on for over a year, probably along with the ap racing f/r brakes the best money I have spent on the car.
Been in a car with ast's they good for the money no question, either way you won't go wrong.
