Default Windscreen Renovation

With the low sun around at the moment I've noticed just how badly damaged my windscreen is - not chipped but just in need of a real heavy duty clean/polish. Is there any way of renovating this or do I need to get autoglass to fit a new one

Depends on what sort of damage mate, deep scratches or lots of small chips get it changed.

There's nothing visible until the sun catches it - it's almost like a fine rash

nothing can polish car glass (people will tell u there is , but there isnt) If it bothers you , get it replaced under insurance. Thats what i did , on a sunny day it was like a spiders web ! Bugeyes must have soft glass coz all my windows are bad , but screen was the most annoying.

Really, you aren't required to declare glass claims if you have windscreen cover

didnt make a difference to my insurance . Had to pay some towards it (cant remember how much ) still cheaper than a new screen.

That's how it normally works - I think my excess is either £60 or £75

fair enough,it did with mine, and i had to pay the vat, mind you the bill wasnt far short of a grand as the screen is heated and has auto lights/wipers which add to cost i believe

in winter my van window cracked . Said to the boss and wasnt too worried as i though ins would sort it throught the lease . They did , and he had to pay some plus VAT but the guy handed me the bill . . . . . £300 odd ! Felt a bit guilty (only a bit)

It confused the heck outta me.

I recently claimed via my insurance for a 'Autoglass' smart repair & when I went through the recorded options, it put me directly though to Autoglass!
Even though I rang my insurance company, I didn't speak to them at all!
All Autoglass wanted to know was if I had glass cover on my policy & what the excess was...£25.

Ironically, I washed the car yesterday and found a deep scratch in the bonnet with a corresponding hole in the windscreen - I think I recall hearing the stone hit but I'd not seen it or the damage until yesterday. Decision made, just need to dig out my insurance docs!
