Default Sealant hasn't dried - now even wetter!

Right, I've had a replica sti8 spoiler (DRmotorsport) on my motor for a while now and had no problem since this cold weather kicked in. I think the cold has made it pop off from the bootlid and now there is a gap between bootlid to spoiler. When it rains I get lots of water dripping in to my boot.

I've used silicon recommended by Halfords to fill in the gap and I leave it parked in my garage overnight. However, I use my car to get to work and it's parked outside all day. 2 weeks later, the silicon still hasn't dried and is now dripping down the back of my car where it's set!

Can I get this off? and what am I doing wrong?!

Thanks

Firstly, where did you get the silicon, and how long had they had it in stock? it might be worth contactiong the manufacturer and asking what it's use-by date is: I've had stuff refuse to go off because it was over it's use-by date

If it hasn't gone off, it can be removed using plenty of rags or paper towels plus some stuff called Silicone Remover to give a final clean up. Then wash thoroughly with water and detergent.

I recommend you DON'T take advice from numpties at Halfords, get yourself to a decent paint supplier for car paints, and ask them for some Tigerseal or Sikaflex.

Thanks, just ordered some Tigerseal. With this weather, will this be able to dry outside (exposed to elements)? there's no way I can park indoors during weekday daytime.

AFAIK it goes off under water if necessary, but you could sheet it with polythene to speed drying?

Soory mate, but that is just plain wrong.

Silicone has a "use by" date. After that it takes longer and longer to "go off", eventually it won't go at all.

Had this from the makers, when some I used refused to set.

in my experience, (we use only clear silicone in work) the older the tube, the more likely it is to have set inside the tube, although i have only found this with opened tubes.

For silicone you gotta use the stuff they stock in plumb centre or travis perkins, plumbers sillicone will a set quicker, b last longer and c be very very waterprove. But if you want to stick something that is a non porous surface like 2 x sheets of steel together, use windscreen adhesive!!!!!! Sh** hot!!
