Default Mesh - where from?

What shops in England sell mesh that looks similar to the stuff on this nasioc thread? DIY SSAC FMIC Shroud & grill - Interior & Exterior Modification - NASIOC

I don't want to do mail order as it's a pain to get it delivered to work etc etc.

What's the mesh called in English English?

Yeah, exactly

Angle grinding the majority of your bumper off for a FMIC and then going back to top mount FTW, not

Cheers guys, I'll have a look in the garden centres around here and halfords, although i seem to recall the halfords ones looking a bit too "bling" for me... maybe they do a black mesh nowadays.

I had a look at the RB320 one, but i think it's around 200+VAT, which is my prodrive springs budget going up into smoke

I'll give it a go with cheapish mesh first and see what it looks like. Although I doubt it will look as nice as yours it might look good enough to be acceptable. If it isn't, I'll bend over for Subaru, but I'd rather not.

Mine was sold via a Subaru stall at SBO, but it was an exact copy of a OE one.

If you`re getting the mesh to protect a front mount then get some from Halfords or your local motor shop. Don`t buy it from a garden cenre as its cheap crap and won`t flow as much air

Try B+Q they do aluminium and stainless mesh in different styles and different hole sizes.

Yeah had a look in B&Q yesterday and they seem to do a big piece for 25 quid or a smaller 50x25cm one for 7. I need the big one, of course *sigh*

In fact, I was quite surprised at the amount of different meshes and sheetings they had, might get some of the aluminium mesh and separate the cone filter from the engine bay whilst I'm at it

Here's a pic of the mesh using the b&q stainless stuff.

Installation was fairly straightforward:

1. Draw a straight line with a marker pen
2. Angle grind down to the line (). Make sure you do neat passes that cut only a small section at at time as an angle grinder is a bit vicious with plastic.
3. Measure an oversize rectangle and cut out mesh. Make sure to cut yourself badly on the hand and bleed all over your clothes and shoes (seriously, this b&q stuff was razor sharp around the edges and i didn't realise until it was too late)
4. Bend the mesh around the edges. Cut out triangular sections in the corners to allow the mesh to bend easily.
5. Drill a couple of holes in inconspicuous places to fit tie wraps / steel wire. (I drilled at the bottom of the bumper towards the ground and behind the number plate.
6. Attach mesh.

Overall, for the 22.50GBP cost I'm thrilled.

Contemplating going back to front fogs now for the "completely standard, honest guv" look (bar prodrive exhaust)

i don't know... it seems to idle ok but i've run out of tax so can't take it for a road test at the moment... map booked in for 13'th of May.

Fitted a turbo jacket and wrapped the (decat) downpipe now as well, so hopefully that will keep the intake temps down somewhat...

Still not sure if I'm going to modify the wrx undertray or just buy an sti one from somewhere, though.. the problem is getting the rubber strip correct, i think and I can't figure out a good way to secure it in place.

Yeah it went on OK in the end... I hate fitting down pipes, it's such a pain in the **** with seized bolts, and the constant drizzle doesn't make it any more pleasant lying outside, especially as I've got half gravel half paving slabs to lie on

I've fitted it three times now... First time I messed the gasket up so I had a slight leak, second time I had to take it off again as I decided to wrap it and now hopefully it's never going anywhere ever again I stuck a turbo blanket on as well, so it will be a complete pain in the backside to get off now...

Be careful with the bumper, as it's easy to overdo it (the first ten times you will cut too little, then get fed up with it and cut too much, guaranteed )
