Well even as an owner I think it looks a little silly, but it pales into insignifance alongside the gold wheels - soon to be gone thankfully!!!
Still it's horses for courses I guess.

ouch greasemonkey.
For my 2p, i do think the STI8 scoop is a little large, they could have probably got away with the one they use on the WRX, especially as the STI has a water spray facility also.

surely the scoop is larger because on the classics etc. it became apparent that little air flow was going into it because it was being deflected over the top
and unless you permantly spray water how's that going to help?? Personally I've never used the water spray once
I like the scoop it looks the muts nuts, but then I loved the rear spoiler on my Esc-Cos as well Anyway if I wanted to look inconspicous I'd have a bought Mondeo or a Vectra
LONG LIVE THE SCOOP!
p.s.
and what the **** is wrong with gold wheels? jesus nobody will EVER buy my car when I come to sell it LOL!

Since Subaru first launched the Impreza its fair to say that they kept their heads in the sand for a long while when the rest of us were sorting out the design issues that they presented to us. The MY03 STi range has, in the large scoop and intercooler, at last got somewhere near to where it should have been (FMIC would have been tops).
So in considering the latest scoop on the earlier GC8's is, in my view, one of the better thoughts whatever it look's like however that is a purists view based on keeping charge temps down as low as possible.
Its well worth examining the possibility if nothing else.
cheers

The scoops were designed more on the STi 7, although the slash cut into the sides is from the 8.
For looks, I thought this was enough on a Classic, as the 8 is a bit OTT in my opinion.
But as Bob says, it's performance that matters and these have a 25% increase in volume of air into the scoop. We also got some feedback from some customers who reported a 10deg drop in temperatures.
They are made in carbon, but still most of the owners want them colour coded.
They also only fit the 97-00 bonnets.
