Did he ever score an ordinary goal?

Admired him for sticking with the Saints when he could have played for anyone Matthew Harding tried his utmost to sign him

Often wondered if he should have gone it would have been nice to have

1 seen his talent's on the bigger stage ie champion's league

2 seen him play in a top team to see if he could have raised his game higher

I guess that's the enigma that was Le tiss we shall never know!!!

He bottled going to a big club and hence did nadda at international level. Nice player to watch and scored great goals but can never be considered a great player.

I beg to differ STI, look at Southampton since he retired, I think it can safely be said that he single-handedly kept them in the Prem

There aren't many players you can say that about

Not doubting he was very good but to be considered a great he has to have played for a top team. He hasn't.

just look at the way he dug out the first ball from behind him ... simply stunning goal

The guy was really talented

always wondered too though was it loyalty that kept him with the Saints or a lack of belief in himself that he could cut it at a higher level ???

Any team competing for the league or playing in Europe. Could have tried to move abroad as well. Come on If a player scored some great goals but played for a lesser team now you'd never consider them up there with the best. It's laughable. His England caps prove that managers never considered him anything but a massive luxury player. Love his goal and seems a decent bloke but would you put him up there with the likes of Zola?

Don't talk daft. He played for an average chelski team at the time and although a top player was never in the same class of the ones I mentioned. rose tinted specs here folks.

fair dos. We'll have to disagree although only slightly. I'd put Zola in that second tier with Ginola etc.
