Lee Hughes to be released from prison
Hopefully tomorrow presuming his parole goes through ok. He'll be signing for Oldham Athletic to kick start his career again.
Not sure where I stand on the morale of it all but hes paid for his crime (whether it be too lieniently or not I dont know) but I'll be happy to see a class striker sign for us for nowt.
I cant find anything on BBC or SSN but its on the Oldham site at the minute

What are your thoughts on welcoming him back to football?

Was never a big fan of his whilst at West Brom...... he struggled in the Premiership (not that that's going to be a problem with Albion for the next season at least )
Best of luck to him - hopefully he'll be able to put it all behind him.

Thanks for the link the fans Trusts head speaker Barry Owen is an ex Police Chief and I think that is playing a big part in getting him released on probabtion. He might have to wear a tag or something but the fact that the club will have a minder for him is what is probably swaying him to come to little old Oldham rather than anyone else.

Has he sorted his drug and alcohol problems as well
As others have said every right to look for work, sweeping the streets would about right.
He's probably going to Oldham Dave because no one else will have the scumbag (not a word I use very often), up there with Nas for me.

Plenty of people have had their second chances in football at alot higher level, the only reason I wouldnt want him at the club to do a professional job is incase it causes unrest in the dressing room.
Nothing wrong with our moral values. I just believe he has served his punishment (according to the justice department anyway) and he still has to live with what he has done for the rest of his life. End of the day he deserves to be able to get a job and if an employer is willing to give him a job in his specialised area then so be it.

What did he do 30 months tops ??
Free to restart his career and earn a lot of cash, whilst the victims family are probably recieving nothing
Irrespective of it being a footballer or joe public, the sentence doesn't fit the crime IMHO

So he's served his time. What has that got to do with moral values? He killed somebody and left another disabled and left them there. It's despicable behaviour and by offering him a chanced to represent your club then you're sending out the message that it's not. Would you be happy for a paedophile to play for your club if he'd served his time inside?
Fact is he's going to be looked upon as an hero for kids who follow Oldham and maybe some of the adults too reading this. He should never have the chance to obtain the position being the scum he is.

Its argueable that a drink drive (NOT CONDONING THIS BTW) killer did not set out to kill them, it was obviously a big mistake, probably the biggest mistake he could ever make in his life. A Paedophile is sick full stop. I suppose some would argue thats an illness though (not me fwiw).
If anyone in Oldham ever looked upto him it wouldnt be as a role model, it'd be as a footballer. Role Models come in the form of David Beckham who is in the news every single day.
Funkii, 36 months as of tomorrow. He isnt all bad, whilst inside he has raised £5000 for a Childrens hospice. I know none of this brings back the unfortunate victims but people can try to make amends. The fact that he can earn reasonable money using a talent doesnt mean he shouldnt be allowed to do it.

Madds Timm (OK not high profile as such but hey ho, didnt see him get released and was given another chance)

Forgetting your Mom's birthday is a mistake. Not setting Sky+ to record a program is a mistake. Causing an accident that sees one person dead and another disabled and then fleeing the scene is a despicable and cowardly act that no amount of prison time can wipe clean.

Makes you laugh, he got six years and is out in what 3? I thought death by dangerous carried a max 10 years. I hope someone mows him down, anyway he was sh*te anyway. Having a criminal record will mean he blends in well at Oldham

Conversely Dave it could be argued that the very act of getting into a vehicle when you know you are too inebriated to control it could be construed as attempted murder

The only proof they had was he admitted to having 3 whiskeys but when they followed that up in the pub they said they were doubles. That is all that came about so he was only send down for dangerous driving.

I'm a B'ham lad and I know people who knew him or know him, and his always been a ****. I've 2 friends who are pro footballers both for different premiership clubs, one knew him pretty well when he ( not Hughes ) played for Wolves and said he was a **** head way before the crash took place - It did, he killed a man and crippled another ,then ran away from his own vehicle and went missing . .
How can any anyone who hasn't got something to hide do that ??
