Italian Police
Okay, as much as I dislike the Mancs, what the hell was that all about ?
Trying to rush a barrier manned by coppers is just plain dumb, granted, but the reaction from the Italian police was just disgraceful. Hitting women over the head with batons is just not on. UEFA need to do something about it and fast Football is not an excuse to crack skulls when someone is downed.

The double standards were disgusting. The Roma fans were as bad...if not worse...but the police didn't take any notice of them.
From what i can make out it's pretty much 'the norm' over there though.

its the same old crap with foreign teams they do what they want and no-one does anything, the excuse of a policeman being killed is not good enough because he was killed by an italian fan. UEFA will do nothin except let the italians blame the mancs.
Its a disgrace an always has been

Never nice to see any fans from England getting a beating, shows how primative the Italian Police force is. Hopefully Man U will knock them out in the return leg (both on and off the pitch!), and thats coming from a Everton fan!

It happens week in week out at Italian football matches, but i did notice that not one Roma fan was attacked. Yes hit out at fans who are causing bother but dont keep hitting when old men and women are laid on the floor. They were not thugs they were just innocent fans.
Rumour has it the Italian army has surrended just in case we declare war

Italian police have a reputation for being the most barbaric in Europe going back as far as 70's i remember my uncle telling me how he had the shi** kicked out of him in the European championships in Turin by the Italian filth !!

Same thing happened to the Boro fans when they travelled to Rome last year. People stabbed by Roma fans. Reports of unprovoked police brutality.
Hard to know who's worse the cops or the ultra's, or are they one and the same?

The 'ultra' fans and the police at Roma are just different branches of the same mob
Just ask any Liverpool fan who went to the '84 European Cup final and any foreign (or even southern Italian) fan who's been there before or since
Having said that, I would have thought even the Mancs would have had the sense to know that charging at europes most brutal riot police would end badly

I suppose it's not wise to take the cops on, but quite a few innocent bystanders did get clobbered from what I saw on Sky news and I bet those batons pack a punch.
The Boro fans did make a complaint about the Roma cops to the European Parliament but so far not even an apology! Maybe tonights incident with the United fans might raise english fans concerns?

Nothing will happen. UEFA are already using the "we have no control over the police" statement. Its not the first time so punish the club. I bet they dont even get a fine as we did for the Lens incident.

No shock at all with the crowd trouble. I'm sure the United fans aren't blameless but every time a British team plays in Italy there tends to be trouble. More so when it's Roma or Lazio with their Ultras. When Leeds played in the CL I know mates who went and they wont go back. The Police and abuse/missiles they suffered from the fans meant they were fearing for their safety. Boro last year with fans being stabbed.
Lets also not forget that it was the Roma fans who threw the coin at frisk and then you have the abandoned game with AC and Inter the other year. They managed to throw a bloody scooter from the top tier that night!
If this happened at an English ground we'd be kicked out no question.

Its well known how bad the fans and police are in Italy, as much as Im an avid follower for club and country I would not even dream of going to Italy to watch the football. I dont know how Italy are still allowed to play football, if its not violence its fraud etc. The whole country is bent

I've just remembered, I have actually been to Roma game before, about 5/6 years ago. I went on holiday for a week and while I was there I saw Roma vs. Piacenza in the Olympic stadium. The Roma fans were quite lively and there were a few flares thrown but apart from that it was all pretty civilised. Mind, it was a domestic game played in the afternoon, they obviously just stir things up for the big cup games, just like Galatasery, they like a bit of chew don't they?
