When are we going to start comfortably winning supposedly easy matches?
My guess = never.
At least The Lion of Gosforth matched Wor Jackies record.
Just for Ritchie

Oh well Cheltenham or Chester in the next round so we'll be out.
The problem with Newcastle has always been lack of depth. We rely on some superhero like Shearer or Dyer or Owen or Macdonald, or we hire someone who was famous once a long time ago.
Then the hero gets injured around Christmas and the famous one was crap to start with. Then you are left with a second division team scratching for points through to April.
At least in the Keegan era we didn't win the Premiership but it was bloody exciting!
Where too now - so many teams have really pulled away from Newcastle since then it is embarrassing.

Win our game in hand and we go 9th. No big deal compared to where we should be, but regardless of your feelings about Souness, injuries have played a major part in our current plight. There's little doubt in my mind that he shouldn't have been appointed, but now he's there, what can we do? Sack him and pay £3 mill to get rid? Who comes to the rescue? They weren't exactly queuing up last time, and can you blame anyone with Fat Freddie in charge? I'd rather it was FF out than GS!
Cheers

We would love to think we are but we simply are not in the same league (if you excuse the pun) as Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.
And we could have been. I am not saying Keegan got it all right - the difference between two seconds and winning the Premiership was tiny - one or two injury time goals.
Every year it is the same - we get to Christmas and the team falls apart due to injuries - there simply is not the depth of the top flight teams.
I am not blaming Souness - although I am not sure he was a great choice to start with - it has been endemic in the team for at least two decades.
