He went for it, but it was lucky. No way from that far out can you judge where the ball will go exactly, ie millimetres from just missing the woodwork and going in. He spotted Seaman, who was waiting for a cross, off his line and went for it and with luck she went in.

He may have remembered an old international match 7 years ago where Seaman copped another one like it from further out and thought he'd do the same. I can't remeber who England were playing against though.

...but if Beckham had scored it, it would have been footballing perfection.

Don't care if he meant to or not, it was a stunning kick. He even disguised it as a cross to get the goalie off his line.

Incidentally, have you heard the latest joke

No, I wouldn't see it that way. All goals from that far out have luck on their side.

its not about wether its a good free kick or not its about the crap effort at a save remember Dietmar Hammans free kick at wembly ?

Seaman is a liability but because he has done well for England in the past people over look his mistakes. Bring on david James he's a keeper who is solid as a rock

Cool

Give Ronaldinho some credit, it was an outstandingly taken chance. I have seen most of the games so far, and no one has yet managed to get that ball to dip like that, including Beckham and Roberto Carlos, both acknowledged masters of the art. The way he positioned the players gave the England players every indication that the cross was the chosen option, therefore Seaman placed himself superbly to intercept a header. As Chiark says, if it had been Beckham it would have been a masterpiece. Taking chances like thatis how free-kick takers establish their reputation, remember how many Beckham MISSED against Greece? No. We only remember the one he scored.

Consensus in my Office (Aberdeen 90% Scots) was Fluke (once they stopped cheering )!

I'm not sure - but the way he kicked it it looked like a cross for a Brazillian head to meet - Only he knows

Ive just watched CNN and the match was on there WOW(americans interested??)and they done a interview with phil scor?? anyway manager of brazil and he said the lad ronaldino was crossing the ball but as he puts it "god helps with talent" or something like that

so it was a freekick/cross which turned into a goal.

Wink

Why argue, all that matters is that Seaman was caught off his line and the ball went in, simple as that
