Now I may be a bit controvercial here, but I don't really support the Fishermen!

We always see these scandalous front page anti-EU poor British fishermen stories losing their industry because of EU regulation and those damn Spanish coming to fish in our waters. But the truth of the story rarely makes it to the back pages if it even gets reported at all!

You see, while its true the Spanish (or anyone else) can come fish in our waters, what then never tell you is the flip side is Britain can and does fish in their waters too! In all fairness, the UK actually gets a pretty good deal compared to other countries in the common fisheries policy, but all this is just smoke and mirrors for the real story!

You see, its not the Spanish fishing in UK waters that is the problem. The problem is ever increasingly restrictive fishing quotas restring the amount of fish everyone can catch, not just the British! And the reason these quotas are getting ever stricter and stricter is because there's virtually no fish left in our waters!

Over fishing has been going on for many decades and the fish stocks all over europe have been devistated by ever increasing industrialised fishing that was just not sustainable. In my spare time i'm a SCUBA diving instructor and have seen first hand the devistation caused by over fishing. The fishermen throw tons of dead by-catch back into the water simply because the price is too low, prefering to fill their holds with more valuable stock and pushing their quotas to the limit. And we, the consumer are partly responsible for this, always eating the same popular fish like cod, haddock, tuna, makarel, but nobody wants to eat monkfish or whiting and other less common (in the shops) fish despite them being often just as tasty and a whole lot cheaper to boot!

I'm in favour of ever more restrictions on the fishing industry because, despite the current quotas, we're still massively overfishing our oceans, not just in the UK or European waters, but all over the world! Fishing can be done sustainably if we eat a variety of fish, but the industry has proved its incapable and unwilling to regulate itself, so its great that the EU is taking the steps it is!

Sure, I feel sorry for the fishermen that are seeing their industry devistated, but the industry just got too big and unsustanable. If they took a more responsible catching policy and we the public took a more responsible eating policy then we could ease the restrictions, but as it stands, I'm in favour of protecting our oceans even if it costs a few fishermen their livelihoods!

Interestingly, just watching countryfile on BBC1 which was raising exactly my concerns with marine conservation vs the fishing industry and how the new marine conservation zones are not working because there are no fishing restrictions! Pointless legislation with government bowing to the fishing lobby more than the environmental concerns!

Good fish are thrown back in order to meet EU quotas.

Funny that, as even the massively pro-Remain Guardian disagrees with you on why this happens:

It is illegal to discard fish in Norwegian waters, but boats are forced to do so in European Union waters if they have caught the wrong species of fish or fish that are too small. Last year the EU estimated that between 40% and 60% of all fish caught by trawlers in the North sea is discarded. The practice of dumping is widely recognised as unsustainable but inevitable given the present EU quota system. Yesterday, Norwegian minister for fisheries and coastal affairs Helga Pedersen, speaking to angry fishing communities in northern Norway who had seen the film, said she would press for review of the EU fishing policy and wanted to ban any boat discarding fish that were caught in Norwegian waters.

As I stated, I want tighter restrictions and a ban on dumping. The EU struggles to push though tighter restrictions because of pro-fishing governments. The UK could ban dumping in UK waters as Norway does, but the UK doesn't want to because its pro-fishing and the public generally support the poor fishing industry - they just offer fake marine conservation areas where they don't actually restrict anything! The EU is doing much more than our government for marine conservation and leaving the EU would be a massive step backwards for protecting our oceans. The way the fishing industry works is truely disgusting and they want us to vote leave so they can pillage even more from the sea! Sorry, but in or out, I cannot support how the fishing industry works!

And don't get me started on Norway and Iceland's wonderfull marine conservation policies that permit the slaughter of hundreds of minky whales every year and is the one reason those two countries choose to only join the EEA and not fully join the EU because whale hunting is banned within the EU!

A good friend of mine came up with a great idea. If you don't have the time/inclination to find out all the facts about the EU referendum (I don't blame you) and are possibly unsure which way to vote, perhaps knowing how other notable people are thinking could help out.

Here are a few that strongly believe the UK should remain a member of the EU:

• Governor of the Bank of England
• International Monetary Fund
• Institute for Fiscal Studies
• Confederation of British Industry
• Leaders/heads of state of every single other member of the EU
• President of the United States of America
• Eight former US Treasury Secretaries
• President of China
• Prime Minister of India
• Prime Minister of Canada
• Prime Minister of Australia
• Prime Minister of Japan
• Prime Minister of New Zealand
• The chief executives of most of the top 100 companies in the UK including Marks and Spencer, BT, Asda, Vodafone, Virgin, IBM, BMW etc.
• Kofi Annan, the former Secretary General of the United Nations
• All living former Prime Ministers of the UK (from both parties)
• Virtually all reputable and recognised economists
• The Prime Minister of the UK
• The leader of the Labour Party
• The Leader of the Liberal Democrats
• The Leader of the Green Party
• The Leader of the Scottish National Party
• The leader of Plaid Cymru
• Leader of Sinn Fein
• Martin Lewis, that money saving dude off the telly
• The Secretary General of the TUC
• Unison
• National Union of Students
• National Union of Farmers
• Stephen Hawking
• Chief Executive of the NHS
• 300 of the most prominent international historians
• Director of Europol
• David Anderson QC, Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation
• Former Directors of GCHQ
• Secretary General of Nato
• Church of England
• Church in Scotland
• Church in Wales
• Friends of the Earth
• Greenpeace
• Director General of the World Trade Organisation
• WWF
• World Bank
• OECD

Here are pretty much the only notable people who think we should leave the EU:

• Boris Johnson, who probably doesn’t really care either way, but knows he’ll become Prime Minister if the country votes to leave
• A former Secretary of State for Work and Pensions who carried out a brutal regime of cuts to benefits and essential support for the poorest in society as well as the disabled and sick
• The guy who was Education Secretary and every single teacher in the country hated with a furious passion for the damage he was doing to the education system
• Leader of UKIP
• BNP
• Britain First
• Donald Trump
• Keith Chegwin
• David Icke

So, as I said, if you can’t be bothered to look into the real facts and implications of all this in/out stuff, just pick the list that you most trust and vote that way. It really couldn’t be more simple.

And if you are unsure about leaving, don't.

Please repost this list, if you think it might help.

You aint seen nothing yet!!! After the PR successes of Eddie Izzard on QT, Geldof on the Thames, and Labour in charge of the campaign, next week Remain bring on their star player..... JEAN CLAUDE JUNCKER!!!!!

A well-sourced article in the leading German news magazine Der Spiegel reports that Jean-Claude Juncker is set to make a major intervention in the referendum next week. They say Cameron made an extraordinary deal with Juncker whereby the Commission would keep quiet during the campaign, on the condition that he could intervene in the last few days if the polls had Brexit ahead:
http://order-order.com/2016/06/14/st...ing-next-week/

Yep old JC is going to persuade the Brits to Remain. Genius plan, what could possibly go wrong?

I agree, and it was a light hearted post, but it does actually reflect the position even if you don't bother to check every single reference. Leave is is not well supported by independent bodies.

I'm sure all the Leave voters will be happy with their Boris/UKIP/[insert other right wing body of xenophobia here] collation after we exit.

This statement was made by a high ranking but unknown EU representative article is from the Telegraph

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016...s-uk-not-to-o/

“Ask any lawyer, what we gave Britain was outside the treaties, it’s illegal but we did it to help Britain. Britain got a lot and many others hold a grudge for that; we were more than generous.”

There you have it, David Cameron's negotiations are worthless. Soon as there is a challenge to the arrangements, if we were to stay, they will be recinded and the UK will be back to square one.

And what YOU have missed out is that, as usual, Britain obeys the quotas, the others don't.
