Can anyone remember how hard it was to get a builder, plumber or electrician in the UK in the 80's? Unless it was an emergency, you'd be waiting for months as they were all busy in Europe!

The EU was our paddle, and it was because of the EU that we could pull ourselves out of the brown stuff and to our current place as 5th largest economy in the world and 2nd largest in Europe! Its right that we now give something back and help out the poorer nations in Europe, because one day we might need their help again.

It seems as EU referendum is gathering pace, the Leave campaign seems to gaining more momentum and support. It doesn't help with what Osborne stated this morning, to call an emergency budget and impose tax rises and cuts in spending on public services. This has been seen as nothing more than a threat to Brexit voters and would punish everyone in the UK. It will only serve to bolster the Brexiteers who will simply dig their heels in. With this in mind I guessing they now feel they would have nothing to lose since taxpayers money will go to the EU in anycase if they remain. Cracks are starting to appear in the Remainer's campaign, the perception is that they are the ones getting more desperate.

None of countries with a veto would allow it, even they did, we wouldn't, and if they overrode that, we could simply leave. It's simply never going to happen unless everyone wants it.
And if everyone does want it, what's the problem anyway?

Did you not see what happened when France and Ireland voted NO. They changed the wording slightly told everyone to vote again with virtually the same outcome. It has been a slow creep. There is no way most of the European countries would of accepted an EU superstate if it was proposed in the early days.

I remember the 70's doldrums were due to the failure of successive governments inability to deal with the powerful unions that wreaked havoc on the UK's economy and productivity with constant strikes, powercuts, blackouts, uncollected refuse etc. It wasn't the EU that stopped this but Thatcher's government paved the road to UK's recovery. Also the unions and their strikers and a generally unproductive workforce shot themselves in the foot and lost public support and eventually lead to the downfall the UK manufacturing and mining industry. If anything, the EU contributed to this downfall with a push to cut carbon emissions and restrict state funding to prevent a competitive advantage for our manufacturing and mining industries against other EU states in the same industry and allowing other companies within the EU to tender for contracts that took over much of UK's businesses and utilities.

We elect politicians to make our decisions for us, as generally (and I accept they are not perfect) they have a better idea of what is good for the nation.

Ok, now we all know politicians have a vested interest in furthering their own careers, but that is not to say they don't do anything that is in the interests of the nation. If that were true, then we would be truly buggered by Leave as there would be no one to keep them in check. The "but we can vote them out every 5 years" argument doesn't really stand up if they are all self serving
Leaving the EU will not fix that problem. If that really is your view, then we may as well stay in the EU and get the economic benefits and put up with self serving politicians, no matter who they are!

I haven't been following this EU Referendum stuff for a day and a half or so, so can someone tell me why these politicians decided to make the Thames water muddy?
