What the hell is it with traffic in Glasgow. It's been a while since I've been thru', but two journeys today almost made me sell my car

Has Arnold Clark sold another 20,000 motas in two month?

How the hell do you commuters keep the road rage down??

It's all you east coast boys that keep coming through and clogging up our roads. Methinks shutting the M8 at Harthill would fix it

Heard on the radio that some HGV had shed its load *snigger* somewhere on the M8 - might have contributed to the probs?

Unless it was annual weegie wash day? (Cheaper if you take the family to the car wash and wind down the windows )

Take a look next time you are on the motorway, or a duel carriage way. It doesn't happen all the time, but 80% of the time I notice that the outside lanes are getting more and more conjested, and the inside lanes are becoming clearer? Everyone wants to go faster which leaves the inside lanes free to go bye bye. So many times I have been sitting in the outside lane in traffic, and looked at the inside lane to see one or two cars on a two mile stretch. The shape of things to come?

Always pick the inside lane if going East onto Kingston bridge
Always clear and usually easy to get back in before goes off for City Center
Outside lane going West but can be harder to get back in before lane goes off to Charing X (more likely to invoke the Red mist in others too )
Anyone else got tips on negotiating the gridlock we call home?

Lo Doogsy,

Probably just my imagnation, but to get in front, alot of it's got to do with driving styles? Not mastered it yet, sometimes every car on the outside lane will pull over for me, then something happens and they just sit there doing 1 mph faster than the inside lane. Not making sence....don't worry, had a few tonight

Tell me about it had to go out to the airport this evening, be there in 25 mins I said (M8 should be quiet, and give the car a final blast), 45 mins later I got there, trying to get back the place was stationary, took about 30 mins to get back on the M8 (stuck on the slip road), a further 10 mins to get to the outside lane, the only one that was moving at all. Getting desperate I came off at the Renfrew turn off, and back on a few miles later, at which point it was clear excepting the Mondeo sitting in the outside lane by himself who eventually migrated to the middle lane after I had sat behind him for 3 miles. Total journey time of 2 1/4 hours

At least it reminded me why I bought a house within walking distance of my work.

Scoty,

Everyone wants to go faster which leaves the inside lanes free to go bye bye. So many times I have been sitting in the outside lane in traffic, and looked at the inside lane to see one or two cars on a two mile stretch.

Don't think it's "Everyone wants to go faster", but a combination of increasing selfishness (this is a general "society" thing, not just driving) and our "pro-gridlock"{*} road policing policies.
{*} By this I Mean that the police in Scotland (unlike many counties in England) never, AFAIK, prosecute people for "clogging". However, they often prosecute people for 'undertaking'. I'm not justifying undertaking, but they are tackling the symptom rather than the cause. A couple of years ago, I 'undertook' someone on the two-lane M73 / M74 South spur. The 'clogger' was doing 50 mph! They did me, but not him.
If you ever travel the M6 North of Preston (after the traffic thins out a bit), virtually all the 'middle lane cloggers' have Scottish registrations.

My tuppence worth.

Thumbs up

This behaviour might be catagorised as selfishness, and it could also be learned from other drivers. Nature, nurture anyone?

Problem with motorways in and around Glasgow is that the 50 mph cloggers are sitting at the speed limit therefore in there Holy than thou opinion they are setting a good example.

IMHO the restricted 50mph is a nonsense. Why would you set a road classed as a M'way to 50. Surely it is not being used at the speeds it was designed for.

The have done the same in W Lothian, reducing the Nat. speed limit roads to 40 and 50 where this makes no sense at all. The reasoning is that it will cut down on deaths. But what they fail to see is that it is the Ned Brigade in the sports cars (nova, saxo, 106...blah, blah, blah,...) who cause most of the deaths, thankfully most of them their own !!!!!!!! These guys will speed whatever the limit and area. As with all things draconian in this twisted country the majority suffer as the 'Powers that Be' are not bright enough or committed enough, other than near election time to sort the REAL issues with the roads.

I get followed on a regular basis by plod, where it is obvious that they are just looking for a reason to stop me, which I never give them, but I have seen the Neds get away with everything on the roads, right infront of plod.

All I can say is Oi' Plod....NOOOOOOO!!! Do your job and leave me alone.
