Isle of Skye / Fort William - petrol stations
Anyone know if there are Shell optimax stations around Fort William/ Isle of Skye.
Planning a few days away and cant seem to get any sensible response from Shell's station locator.
cheers,
Mark

Heading from Edinburgh the last place I've found Optimax is the Shell garage in Doune, about 10 miles NW of Stirling. I don't think you'll get Optimax any further north but there is SUL if you know where to look.
In Fort William the Esso on the right hand side as you drive north out of town, near the distillery, has SUL.
On Skye I'm not sure about SUL at Kyle of Lochalsh or Broadford but the Shell garage in Portree, just as you leave town on the A87 towards Uig, close to the big Scotmid, also has SUL, although they won't accept your Shell rewards card!
Otherwise the only SUL on the west coast is Ullapool.
Hopefully JohnS will spot this thread and provide a full list!

Thanks guys.
Brian was on the Shell site, but Mark's answer explains why I couldnt get anything beyond Loch Lomond - thought site was playing up or something.
Cheers for the info Mark

i keep seeing posts asking for optimax .......do you lot have your motors tuned/mapped to such a tee they wont survive a drop from 98ron to 97 for a day or two?
sureley it would only be an issue if you were planning doing a top speed run

Your off topic, but since I've gone this far - yes, alot of imports need near as damnit 100 ron fuel, otherwise ye olde Knocklink can show the increased activity - which aint good.
And since I'll be on country roads - chances are I'll be having a prolonged blat anyway.
Try paying 3.5K on a rebuild due to detonation, then ask is it important

Kevin,
My MY99 RB5 has no engine mods (unless you count a full de-cat) and I've noticed more activity on the knocklink going from Optimax to Esso SUL. Nothing major I may add, just an extra green when accelerating hard.
The last time I filled up at Fort William it was blue lights I saw on the A82 heading back down to Glasgow

Stefan, that's bad news, how/where were you stopped?
I've seen mobile speed traps in some of the villages where it's a 40mph limit (fair enough) but I've never seen anything on the unrestricted sections.
My favorite bit is the A84 from Lochearnhead, up through Glen Ogle and then the A85 through Glen Dochart to Crianlarich.

It was the long straight in towards Glen Orchy and 3am on a Sunday morning. I'd just spent the best part of 16 hours on the hills, so was a bit keen to get home. Got stopped my a traffic car at 95mph, but just got a a ticking-off since the cop was pi$$ed to be spending a Sunday night stopping eejits like me
There's been loads of fatalities on that section (as well as over Rannoch Moor) with all the wildlife wandering onto the road.

The furthest North Optimax is Nairn on the East side. On the West it is down to loch Lomond. My car runs OK on 95 RON just do not use a lot of boost. Best to keep a gallon in the car, especially North of Ullapool as lots of places close early and do not open on Sundays.
