Thumbs up The verdict

Well chaps after having taken the plunge and paced about like an expectant father all day I have this to report:

my car is an my99 uk with full decat and panel filter only and was puting out around 236bhp at 0.9bar boost

After the car had been fettled for a day by Gerry at Dastek my car now puts out 256.8bhp at 1.2bar boost, not a bad gain but that is not the full story as the BHP is up right across the rev range a significant amount.

The big story however is the figure that matter most, torque. Right acroos the rev range the torque is up as much as 40flbs which really is impressive!

These figures mean that the car now pulls like a train all the way to the red line and is very obvious when you put the foot down.

This cost £465 plus vat which I think is a great price for the work that goes in and the fact that it is done on the dyno.

Gerry and Stuart are absolutely top blokes and give you the tour of the facility afterwards which is pretty impressive. Also the pressure hose to my boost pipe was utter crap so Gerry fitted a new one free of charge!

Brilliant service and results! Cant recommend them enough.

Yes, I wont lie to you Johnny....... It had crossed my mind!!

Thanks for the write up mate, decent wee increase there, think I'll find out what my car is putting out on the 27th March when we've organised a local site (dundeecruise.com) RR day.. Then after that, and after having a wee chat with the guys I might be sorely tempted!!

Cheers,
Grant

Sorry Dougster I'm on a public computer just now and dont have the figures to hand but if I remember correctly peak torque before was around 230lbs at around 4600 rpm, torque after is around 270lbs at around 3800 rpm. Torque also stays significantly higher further up the rev range than before. Sorry about the vague figures but I will make an exact post tomorrow if you want?

This shows very strongly when accelerating in gear and is appreciably faster than before.

That would be good Judge.

As you said it's the torque figure that counts.

After reading about HI SOOB's misfortune I have kinda cooled to the unichip idea. Not doubting there abilty at all BTW.
Still would be interested to see the torque results, as the spooky mobile is in desperate need of a lift lol

Default Cant blame Dastek

Spooks, I don't think it would be fair to point the finger at the unichip just yet. I will need to get the new engine up and running then get her checked out again. It might be a faulty MAF or the likes, perhaps just a bad engine.
Theres no way I'm going to say anything bad about the guy's at Dastek. Even if I decide to go for a Ecutek or something similar in place of the unichip,I dont think there is any point in shouting about them. Mistakes can be made and no company has a 100% sucess rate at this game.

P.s The new engine is en route, STI9 btm end. Going for larger injectors and perhaps change the turbo again, hope for nearer the 400hp mark. Fingers crossed.

Spooks, I just feel it is a dead end modification, unless they can remap for you if you decide to add further to your car.

For a few hundred more you could have a complete new remappable ECU.

Not getting at them or Judge's decision, just my opinion.

The torque figures are eagerly awaited.

(added to say I'm looking at it from the viewpoint of a 97ecu owner!! )

Default Torque before and after

As requested (P.s Dougster the Unichip is remappable, that is one of the reasons I chose it)

RPM BEFORE AFTER
1500 112.4 120.4
2000 135.5 141.8
2500 162.8 173.1
3000 208.2 225.5
3500 230.5 268.5
4000 228.9 269.4
4500 234.2 259.7
5000 229.9 255.0
5500 219.0 244.7
6000 211.1 217.4
6500 192.9 194.3

Hope that answers the questions. Not bad I think.
Cue the flood of disagreement!

Default Other folks opinions

Judge, let folk think what they want. At the end of the day you chose this route because it was what you wanted. If we all did the same mod's to our scoobys then it would be boring!
If the unichip is that crap then how are they still trading? Each to their own. Thats what I say.
Still unsure as to whats going to happen with mine. Don't know if you were following the story of mine, the bugger blew up a few weeks ago after having some running problems, currently undergoing a build just now to a stronger spec. Dastek got 297bhp before with std wrx internals and injectors, but a front mount, hybrid turbo and full de cat. This time it's STI9 btm end with 550cc injectors, manifolds and flywheel. Been told that with a change of turbo it could reach the 400 mark.

Who is getting at who?

Looking at every conceivable option. I like the fact that the torque figures are very high mid range.

Bring on the discussion.

Judge, any chance of meeting up soon? We are close m8. PM for details.

HI SOOB
please buy a knocklink for this one , no scoob is safe without one IMO , especially those still with MAF's

Default tuning box

basically they connect to the battery with + and - wires, then there is a harness with a small box 4" x 3" x 1" which plugs directly into the side of the engine or somewhere close by and thats it.just off u go an extra 40bhp.sadly as i mentioned in my post they have stopped suppling them.

if u want the web site address let me know

Andy
