I travelled down the M74/M6 a couple of weeks ago, during daytime, and I saw at least 3 mobile speed camera checks on overhead bridges between Carlise and Knutsford. Plus SPECS cameras in the roadworks. Origin B2 warned of SPECS cameras but had to use my eyes to spot the mobile ones. Two were white vans, one hidden a bit and the other was a Policeman with some sort of tripod mounted gizmo.

Hi everyone, I shall be travelling up to Ayr (from Manchester) in the next couple of weeks. I'll be going the M74 / A70 route, what I would like to know is are there any fixed revenue collection points (speed cameras) on this route or are there any places where the mobile revenue collection vans / people regularly frequent.
Thanks for your help. Mike.

Hi Mike

Came up from Manchester last week.

Few patrol cars had pulled. Also unmarked dark blue Mondeo.

This was on the M6/M74.

No fixed cameras I noticed.

and wasn't on A70 So can't report on that road.

I hear that sticking to the speed limit renders these devices useless!

I also use the tried & tested method of sticking to the limit to foil these devices but my experience of these devices in North Wales (the area that is leading the way in policing for profit) is that to increase the earning potential of the devices they are located in places where the normally law abiding motorist finds a nice safe, straight stretch of road to overtake the hgv, caravan, bus ect… that has been sat in front of him doing 10 –15 mph slower than the limit for the last 15 mins.
Mike.

Thanks for the replys everyone, does anyone have info on the A70 as I use the tried & tested method above on the motorways (overtaking slow moving vehicles isn't a problem with 3 lanes).
thanks, Mike.
