Default Octane Booster/Additive for Highlands roadtrip

Morning all!

Am planning a road trip through the highlands, west coast and up to the Northern tip of Scotland. I will be running a 03 WRX ppp wagon and there seems to be a lack of petrol stations in the areas we are planning to drive that stock anything above 95 RON.

So, it looks like I will have to go down the Octane booster/additive route. Has anyone used these and are there any recommendations. A quick search on here threw up a comment that they hurt your CAT?

Any advice would be good.

Cheers

I use ( MILLERS PETROL POWER ECOMAX FUEL TREATMENT ADDITIVE 500ml INCREASES POWER & MPG )
Great value for money, can be found on ebay for under a tenner as well.

You could get it mapped with a switchable map to run on 95RON? Safest way. Octane booster could be fine too though.

I didnt realise WRX's needed to be ran on anything more than 95RON. You learn something new everyday!

I still didn't realise PPP required 99RON petrol. I would have genuinly filled up with normal 95RON if I owned/borrowed WRX!

The millers additive claims to stick 2 figures on the RON of the fuel you've put in. Would you take that as about right or with a pinch of salt?

I'm not particularly keen to have to stay 'off boost' for 3 days in the Highlands!

the Millers will do exactly what you require or use the higher rated (if less convenient) NF Race booster

carry both in stock on SN deals............

Have you used the locators to find 99 octane fuel near to where you're going?

http://www.tesco.com/storeLocator/pe...g-stations.asp

http://www.shell.co.uk/gbr/products-...n-locator.html

It may not be as bad as you think.

Ullapool you go east to get north plenty places to get fuel, the roads are a lot of fun just dont nip on in the small single track roads as everyone else is doing the same, if you fuel up at dingwall then on way down caithness youll make it

Previous owner of my WRX PPP threw a cel and encountered limp mode using 95. That said I think he also had a panel filter and Blitz exhaust that weren't mapped for so lean city.

Maybe thats what they mean by "safe but reduced power" ,limp mode till you get some proper fuel in! Ha.
