Default Rally driving - own car

With the weather being crap, track days are tricky.

I was wondering, is there a rally track open for public use here in the UK? Or dirt roads of sort?

I am based in North Yorkshire and fancy a dabble at a rally stage, get the car filthy and sideways!

If there isn’t, there is certainly a gap in the market!

Any thoughts muchly appreciated 

I think there's far too much scope for it going horribly wrong

If you want a rally experience the Phil Price rally school in mid Wales is the best bet.

I can whole heartedly reccomend the Higgins Rally School (ran by David Higgins of Subaru USA rally team fame and brother of TT legend Mark Higgins), again in mid-wales.

Have to say its easily the most intense day of driving I've ever done.

A normal road car will limp out of a rally stage on three wheels - if its lucky that it

You'd want to have a sump guard fitted at the very least. But yeah don't think you can just go driving round your local forest unfortunately. Rally schools are your best bet and it's their car that could get trashed not yours.

Far too dangerous for anyone to even dream about getting insurance to run it as a business, hard objects everywhere to cause serious injuries. You need to have a decent amount of safety gear, go to a rally school where you have all the correct kit

Well I think there is a common theme here! Would be a good option but you're right, the trees and tin can sideways Subarus don't mix!

In someone else's car is far more fun anyway, and I like Wales for driving in general, good plan. Saves upsetting the badgers too of course, ha!

Thanks for the input

Rob, check out http://www.extreme-rally.co.uk/

They've got a centre at Tong, Bradford. I did a day there for a Christmas present from 2012, thoroughly enjoyed it. Got Evo's and Impreza's to play with, they encourage you to push on if your show competence but will reel you in if you're being silly.

Can leave your car nice and clean in the carpark out back

Rob,

Tong is an awesome venue & not far from you.

We had a Type RA day there in 2007 & it was awesome. I'd thoroughly recommend the place.

A few vids from our day there: http://www.type-ra.com/subaru-forum/...y-videos.4237/
