They are very good at doing what they are designed for , I p/x'd my GTR for the rally car I bought , and Steve who owns WRC spares reckons it was faster off the line than his S12 WRC subaru was , but obviously the WRC car would leave the GTR for dust through the twisties and under braking.
You wouldn't want to run a WRC car as an everyday drive , they only use race fuel , which is £4 per litre and it will only do a mile a litre ! and rebuilds of engine box and diffs are needed every 1k miles

I'm surprised to hear they need such heavy maintenance though, I thought WRC cars were limited to 300hp? I've always assumed with the tech available and a relatively low power output that they'd be nigh on bombproof. A 300hp car doing 4 odd mpg, what the hell does it do with the fuel?! :-)

I can quite easily add a £14k gearbox to mine which the banana runs and £10k suspension so it hugs every bend.
But as Gear Head says "its big *****" that makes the car quick as I found out in mine that I have never had the ***** for flatout 4th and 5th gear bends in the MLR sprints which is why when I car shared the others finished in the top 10 and I was always mid table

you won't get a gearbox for £14k , a mate of mine just bought a spare box for his S14 WRC car , and the retail on that was £65k !
I always wondered where the money went on a WRC car , mines on the ramp , and everywhere you look , its engineering at its best , its miles away from a road car

Clutch's aren't too bad , £2500 for a carbon one , and as they wear they can be shimmed so will last quite a long time.
My car was LHD but was converted years ago , I can't drive a LHD car no where near as quick as I can a RHD , so i'll just have to have an un-proper car ;D

I've found having a LHD road car to use helps and you do get used to it.
Friend of mine has an Ex-McRae Focus and complete clutch assembly for that was £10k. (M-Sport prices though and did come in a nice case ! )
