It's just the reflection , but it does need a rear bumper as his wife reversed into a pole and split it so on the look out for one of them , and yes the head gasket has gone

not all, i have a wrx and there is alot of difference between and sti and a wrx

out the box sti is far more performance orientated.

Uprated engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes, interior etc etc

Wrx is a bit less hardcore, softer suspension, lower engine power, 5 speed none dccd box, 4 pot subaru brakes, cloth material interior.

So if you want one with a softer edge then wrx is the way to go.

Also you pay more for an sti, so if you plan on modding the hell out of it no point in getting an sti due to just scrapping all the sti parts you just paid extra for.

very much depends on what engine and who you ask. Its one of those opinion based things rather than exact figures.

Tax is alot more on sti & probably insurance too. Also im sure I've read somewhere before that uk wrx 5speed gearbox ratios are more better suited to our roads (but dont quote me on that)

This....
Spend a couple of weeks reading up on the car, find out what works and what doesn't before you start throwing money around.
It will stand you in good stead and save you money in the long run.

Yes I know what you are saying and that is what I shall do , either way the engine has to Come out to do the head gaskets , but while it is out I shall do some research

It's never good when the wife back up on to another man's pole.

How does the UK STI stack up against the JDM twinscroll of this era? Anyone?

So how much did you pay, would need to be sub £3k to be a bargain.

I'm not trying to **** on your strawberries, but I hope you know how to rebuild the engine yourself otherwise between a PROPER job and the back bumper it will end up being over a £6k car.

What milage has it got on and when was the clutch, timing belt etc changed, you may also want to make sure the gearbox syncros are all good too, because they're a known problem on that year, along with seized callipers and knocking suspension.

So like mattyb said, you need to do some research and save your pennies before you go and spunk all your cash on wheels etc.

Just a word from the wise.

I am a painter so that part shall be cheap and have a fair amount of mechanical knowledge so repairing the engine shall be no trouble . It's done 95k which may seem a little high but it has full subaru service history every receipt and mot from new and it's a genuinely clean and well looked after car

In that case your going to need the FULL Monty, clutch, timing kit, water pump, oil pump, full gasket set and i'd have the syncro's on the gearbox done too as well as a FULL rebuild.

Enjoy.

It's just had a full service including timing belt and kit and a clutch so it's fine on that front but I shall take your positive input on board
