the traffic levels have gone down you can see that when going into certain areas threads from day before still in the top 10/20

a few years ago a thread could drop off the page within 5/6 hours

I'm just watching particular threads always getting out of hand. It infuriates me watching people talking drivel, Mis informing and generally getting into people's business. I've been on SN since 2000 and never seen it as bad.

I wouldnt say mis-informing, You find when you do give helpful advice they either get annoyed as they dont like the truth, or they just dont want to listen to the advice given from the majority who post on here and have been for years!!

How many threads do you read about stickers/graphics and bloody dump valves, its never anything technical or interesting, its always something across the lines of "which is the best dump valve" how can you give advice on which is the best dump valve???

You got to see it from some people on here who have been posting since the early 2000's who see a thread pop up like that every week, there is no advice to give, You have got to be un-kind to be kind as the old saying goes!!!

Totally agree with you, I've been here since 2000. I know what you mean about same old same old. It's not that, there's just something lately really getting on my *****!! I'd love to get this off my chest but I'd end up banned and that's not what I want. I used to like using SN, I run a Subaru specialist garage and enjoy helping others with info. I've been repairing subaru's since 1996 and it makes me mad when I get spoke to as if I'm a total nugget who know eff all !!

If you don't want to post here in public, then PM me and we'll go from there.

If on the other hand, you are quite happy to let it out for all to see, then my advice for you is to keep it civil.

You are not going to get banned for having an opinion and airing it, just do it in a calm manner if possible.

Perhaps it's better that you do it that way, then people can see how you feel and perhaps reflect on how they behave/talk on here. A forum like this (and any other most likely) is never going to be 100% harmonious as there are so many people from so many walks of life, all with different personalities, clashes are inevitable and have existed to some degree or another all the time I have been on here, and no doubt for all the years before. However, if you are feeling more disillusioned than ever before, speak out. A problem shared, can be a problem halved and all that. Sometimes even flogging it out amongst one another can actually help. Just please keep it civil.

A note to all members. If PADDYHOEY decides to voice his feelings in a civil manner, I expect to see any replies to be in the same manner. I am giving you guys the opportunity to have your say, maybe even take on board what may be said, but I do not want to see this just descend into a slanging match.

I understand whats being said, having only been a member for a few months I can say/see that there is a lot of interclub bitching which is strange considering we are effectively a one marque forum

The only club that rivaled it was my 'local area' site that just desended into a whos the top dog competition in every thread

In fairness though the good content on here outways the bad though but the amount of repeated threads (for which I have been guilty of creating from time to time) opens yourself up for banter and abuse

My local forum was (imo) probably worse than here, especially when you consider there were a lot less members. It had it's good points don't get me wrong, but cliques would form etc. and truthfully that will happen in pretty much all aspects of life, again, to some extent or another.

This is also true. Whilst it's easy to get frustrated, annoyed or even upset by said banter/abuse depending how you take it, it can be understandable how it arises. We have a search function that seems to often be ignored, hence some threads are repeatedly being posted and over time, older members get frustrated themselves. Enough so, that we have lost some knowledgeable members over the years as they just got fed up, and that in itself is a shame (regardless of their personality). That combined with the likes of text speak/ illiterate posts, a defensive or abusive attitude when a comment is made that the member doesn't like, so on, and we end up with an unhappy atmosphere.

That said, newer members shouldn't be subject to abuse either. If longer standing members think a post is not worthy of a decent reply, they should just ignore it. If they feel they have to post, perhaps it would be better if they could do so in a way that is perhaps a bit more diplomatic than sometimes happens (even if I do see where they are coming from) but that again still goes back to the point that newbies need to be open to being 'helped' and not get straight on the defensive.

The site has been getting worse for a while IMO. People post questions and yes some people give good answers/advice but then someone starts to be a **** and the others follow. Remember, we were all newbies at stage to Subaru and even some of the old hand members will still learn things, you never stop learning or picking up ideas.
If people ask for advice on things like stickers, dump valves etc and the response is there is no advice, why bother posting bollox.
I used to use the site a fair bit but have slowly dwindled away because of the way some people are and what some say about others cars etc. I mean if you don't like a colour that fair enough, but to then carry on and be damn right rude and nasty then that makes the op wonder why they bother if there only going to get bitched about their car.
I wont be renewing my membership again on here as I can't see the point tbh. It reminds me too much of a FB group

The thing with Subaru's is they cost anywhere from £500 to £50,000 so you're always going to get a cross section of society buying them.

As they as such a popular car to modify you're going to get a full mix of mods, from DV's and stickers to £100k engine builds.

Just because something isn't to your taste doesn't really give you the right to abuse (and lets face it, some of it is abuse) others. Vice verse, if someone doesn't like the mods you've done and they say if in a friendly was don't jusmp on their backs.... we're all entitled to an opinion either way. There is no right or wrong, just opinion.

The one thing i don't quite understand is when someone asks for advice, gets good info from the regulars.... then completely ignore it.
Makes you wonder why they ask in the first place, and i can see why some are fed up spending time giving good advice, just for it to be overlooked.

We're all adults on here, so should act accordingly.

It's just suffering a little "Forum Malaise" that's all. It's still the biggest and best for variety with some real characters contributing. Some of the info offered can be a bit off, but I don't know of any forum that's any better.
Bear in mind a lot of questions can have several correct answers! (Dump valves etc..)
I'd say the real dummies can be spotted a mile off and given a wide berth.
Nobody likes having their car slated, so to those who take delight in doing that, just don't, OK? Like my Mum said, if you can't say anything nice..

Oh, and a PS here.. All you have to do is check the times of posting to see who has been "lubricating" during the evening. The most lurid stuff that ends up on Forums is from those who can't handle the vino. There's one very well known tuning specialist on the MLR register who does it all the time, getting more ridiculous as the evening progresses!
Maybe we should have breathalyser authorised PC's?

Generally speaking, I would agree with you. However, people will post their cars up, presumably in the knowledge that people will comment, they may even hope people will come along and say it's nice etc. Unfortunately, what goes hand in hand is that it might not be somebody else's cup of tea and they will make their opinion known. It's inevitable that people will post their opinions (especially when asked 'what do you think?') positive and negative. Personally, if I loved my car and how it looked, I would just brush over negative comments as ultimately, it is my opinion that is important as I would be the one driving it. It doesn't matter if somebody I most probably will never even come across in real life doesn't like my car.....That said, I think some people could tone down their comments at times. There is a difference between having an opinion and just being rude/nasty.

I have found this forum to be one of the most hostile I am on with some of the most useless, unhelpful and pointless posts. As you say, if you cant be helpful or constructive then dont bother posting anything!

However, I've been away to other forums for years but lately came back on and since then I log on every day as there always some good info and banter. You just have to know who to listen to and who is talking and taking the pi5h.

Not going to change IMO.

I don't think it's any worse now than at any point during the 10 years (almost!) that I have been on here.

What does get my back up though is when people can't be bothered to use the search function.

Also, when a member asks for an opinion on their mods/stickers/crap paint jobs and then get all upset when nobody likes it.

Its not the best search funtion in the world though, the amount of time I search something and the first 2 pages are nothing to do with the subject.

its better so search Google and put scoobynet in the search field with the subject.

I can understand how they get upset to be honest. I'd never go directly up to someone and say I don't like their car, their personal taste in mods or their pride and joy! However, it's very easy for someone to say on a protected forum and upset someone.

Once you've been on a forum for a while you get hardened to it in some ways ignoring the abuse and concentrating on the issues, good conversation and advice.

I know this place has it's issues and keyboard warriors but I still love it!

There! Said my bit on the yearly "Hasn't this site got quiet" thread!

No different to how it's always been tbh The only difference is the power has shifted from bowing down to favored specialists and over hyped products to actually telling people the truth "Yes your car has a charge speed kit stuck on back to front, and yes it looks shyte "

Gary is right though if you ask for advice and opinions be prepared to listen I always give good advice technical styling whatever, but throw it back in peoples faces as if you knew better all along and you're fair game IMHO
