Default How long will ScoobyNet last.

As per the title. How long will it last? Notice some users have been coming on here years, but with the newer models coming out I think people will lose interest, and the classics won't last forever.

Can you see yourself coming on here with the same enthusiasm in 3, 5 , 10 years time?

Will it just phase out? I have seen some other car forums close down from lack of use.

I for one will be using it for a good few years to come. But what about you people?

Classics are for those still trying to live in the 90's

People should move on, instead of just being stuck in a rut

I agree GC8, there is a lot of bickering and arguing on here now. I was reading a project thread yesterday, and it turned into a sl*gging match!

Going by some of the spelling/posts I've seen recently, people will be either too stupid or too lazy to string the basics of a sentence together within the next two years, as soon as that happens it's game over!

It;ll go on as long as:

a) People like the site enough to want to contribute
b) People dislike the site enough to want to bitch about it (i.e. contribute)

These kinds of threads often suggest there is no shortage of people from both categories.

TBH, I think it's self destructing now

Much as I like the place, I can't help noticing that there are FAR fewer posts, that there are far fewer people wanting to help, that the standard of use of English has fallen through the floor and that the number of people who come on and give advice based on what they did with their RS Turbo has risen exponentially.

Add to that the ongoing problems with DDoS attacks, starting again, which IB don't seem to be able to get on top of, and the ease with which spammers seem to be able to bypass any things put in their way, and you are looking at reduced use.

Shame, but there it is.

And SOME people predicted it, once money started talking..............

Thats just because you've turned into even more of a grumpy b****** as the years have gone by though

Sales are through the floor since the hatch came in, and Classics are dying by the scrapyard-load. Difficult to see how new membership is going to increase the way it used to.

That said, it needs to be kept going. Its a great source of info if you can separate the wheat from the chaff on posts over the years.

As time goes on, it'll turn into a true enthusiast site eventually. It'll take a long time yet before the majority of the cars are crashed, broken and scrapped though.

One day, there will be no questions raised on flamer kits, dump valves and stickers. Probably

There will always be some numpty asking why their side lights are stuck on or have we seen a quad with a scooby engine and there will always be somebody willing to laugh / point them in the right direction.

I would tread very carefully on that one if I was you, you might end up with the flamer kit/chav horn/sticker brigade trying too shoot you down

But I agree, I can't wait for that day myself, a proper enthusiasts site. Then all we would need to do is get rid of IB and there fecking adverts and it's job done

agreed, the site is excellent and we should rule out the muppets. genuine enthusiasts only,it would certainly cure the newbies coming on here and trying to rip people off there are many enthusiasts and genuine decent people on here.if it was kept like that it would be even better, fingers crossed for the future of sn.

I first started using it in 2001, long before I joined. Its gone downhill, but so has its subject matter. The Scooby is no longer the icon it was 10 years ago. Other sites are often better for Tech advice nowadays too.

Its now competing with the likes of Facebook and Twitter, but as a social media site its got potential. Ask yourself where do you go to get people opinions on new stories etc. A bunch of like minded Daily Mail reading petrolheads or the socialist workers propaganda machine?

Time to reclaim it as an enthusiasts site. I'll vote for that

I first joined in 1998 when there were only about 400 registered users! The cars were still relatively rare and the camaraderie was brilliant. But just like a lot of other forums, as numbers increase the idiots arrive and start to drag things down. After a while you get a bit tired of seeing the same questions repeated over and over, "Which is the best dump valve?", "Have you seen this scooby in a lake?".
I went away for a couple or three years but came back to find it's still the same as when I left. So maybe the downward spiral has slowed?

i've noticed just recently the amount of crap that has started to be posted, i mean i haven't been on here that long but theres so many wind up threads because some people are just trolling for an argument or that there new rs4 is the best car made in the world ever seems to crop up alot recently. i hope it does turn into a mainly informative side with a bit of banter in the end though as it is a great nationwide base for subaru enthusiasts to come together and have a laugh and get help.

Whilst being tired of the owners of 15 yera old WrX's asking why their car is running rough....

I find it hard to believe that 100,000 people are actively using this site.

I will always try to help if I can, but I'm no expert.... and if someone wants to know if a HKS VTA will kill their engine then ARGH ! I'm going postal.

dunx

P.S. There are some people on here, without whose advise I'd still be driving a bog standard car... Damn them

im a new scooby owner and have found it quite usefull when wanting advice on air filters dump valve (aka chav horn lol) and radio removal.
there is a lot of banter but bery good advice if you choose to listen example dump valve which makes car run bad and can cause damage all of which want explained at local shop, spent money on arb which on advice from here was money far better spent.
i think most owner forums offer excellent advice in my experience

I think it will last long term

we will get rid of the chavs that have invaded the marque as you can buy them for a months wages now they will right them off /never maintain them /spray them dodgy colours and drive through halfords and stick loads of tat on them

then they will go and leave it to the true purist who will be over 40 years old just like the RS boys so we will survive

in ten years there will be only a small handfull of classics left and new age hatches will be the normal mode of transport for us

wrap up your classic s and buy a new age and get a cosworth if you have the money and i will see you at NBO 20

yeah i agree,sn will last a very long time as there will always be enough "genuine" enthusiasts to keep it going regardless to the chavy muppets, they will just come and go from time to time,we should just ignore them all

I think the biggest problem on this site is the inability of some users to use the search option. It does get to a point where the threads keep repeating themselves, as new users join, and the guys with the experience stop answering( gc8).
I've asked and answered many questions, and wouldn't be where i am with my car without this site.
Long live SN!!

I have been here in one form or another since 1998 and it isn't just rose tinted spectacles to say that in the first few years the place was at its best. The classic Scoob had become a motoring icon and the cameraderie was brilliant.

Things have changed over the years as the marque has become diluted and the site has gone through various changes of ownership etc. but it is still a good site overall.

Trouble is the car is no longer an icon, the older cars are depleting numbers wise and people are moving on.

I doubt Scoobynet will still be here in another 10 years as I really can't see the hatch generating the same sort of long term enthusiasm as the classic and new age cars did. It just isn't focused enough to be an icon and let's face it Subaru are detenrined to pull away from the rally rep image etc. And no I am not hatch bashing here, just looking at things in a level headed manner.

You're always going to get idiots wanting to wind people up, but vetting the signup process is hardly appropriate - 'can you spell?', 'do you own a scooby?'
Being in the process of buying one from a member from here, I think this site is invaluable, like other motoring forums I've been on. So thank you all the experienced people out there!!!

At the end of the day there's only a finite number of questions that can be asked about a certain car. Almost everything you could need to know has been answered multiple times so as long as you can use the search facility, there's little need to start new (scooby realed) threads.

Also there's so many local scooby clubs these days; scoobynet has lot more of competition.

I think it's more a mixture of those things and not a lack of enthusiasm that has caused a downturn personally.
