Default The first jobs on the scoob

Following on the last thread of me buying my new/old scooby, there were a few urgent jobs to do. MOT was needed and so I had sort out the brakes.

God they were a mess The previous owner has been quoted something silly like £700 and so had traded in the car..crazy when you think it can be sorted for far less. Anyway his loss

With the help of Mr Paulo Palmer we took it up to his garage as it was pouring down and set to it. I already had some front 4 pots that I had refurbished and the rear 1 pot sliders were also cleaned up. Had cleaned rear and front discs, pads and so armed with some copper slip, tools and cups of tea we went for it.
God it was a mission, took well over 6 hours of pain and effort(mostly by Paul as I stood around offering helpful tips )

Sorted eventually and it was ready for an MOT.

Discs before

Old 4 pot rust buckets

Fronts sorted

Back sorted

Now as the car is going in for a FULL service this week, I thought it only fair that the engine bay be fairly clean for both Rich at FB Tuning. I think he will appreciate the difference

Remember this car has not been touched since leaving the factory

jet wash, tin foil, cardboard, brushes , degreaser and an hour of hard work

Engine before

Engine after

The bird nest !

Gone

Rusty front

Clean but still rusty

Water bottle, battery of crud

After the jetwash and degreaser

Manifold and coil pack

Before

After

Next job is cleaning the actual car

Slowly but surely is the plan and match that with limited funds. Last time round I went mad on upgrades. This time I am concentrating on bringing the car back to its former glory in looks. First will be the cleaning though given the weather I may have to wait until next year for the detailing.

Then it is body panels, like bumpers and trim.
Lights, wheels and bits from the sport go on.

After that I may, stress 'may' look at the power and handling

Yeah it's easy to get carried away. I normally buy stuff for my new car straight away but with this one apart from cosmetic stuff (mud flaps and fog covers) and a decent set of front pads its generally spot on. I get to clean my car every Sunday in work which is handy, it's nearly to how I want it. Hope your plans go well

Well the sport and the last turbo have taught me one thing. And that is not to rush at upgrading and to choose wisely as last time the turbo was an absolute money pit. I think I must have spent the better part of £20k on it

This time I will only upgrade where I have to buy stuff when funds allow (or my wife for that matter )

The rest if can sort using my own skills then I will

Can you fit anything else on your drive Chris? Must have about 8 cars between you and Zoe by now.

Are you talking about when you have removed the pins and clips and just have the pads sitting there ?

They do come out with some hard work but to be honest I have never had them refuse to come out ?

A spray with some good "penetrating oil" and then knock them out with a hammer and a drift, they'll come out eventually, but not with WD40 you need something that can eat at the rust.

Welcome back Swiss.

I don't know how I had missed this thread! What a fun day that was doing these bloody brakes!

The pins on the old 4 pots would not shift at all and they are well seized in there Luckily Swiss had the pins from his new set, it was just a shame that he didn't bother bringing them to my house with the calipers!!!!

I blame my wife for daring to enter the garage and she obviously messed things up and so I couldnt find the nice neat bag of clips and pins the first trip !

That was a day and half !! of grief, but at least it meant that it sailed through the MOT, thanks largely to your efforts

*goes off muttering about me undoing some wheel nuts *
