Default WRX Blob Bottomend sound?

Hi all

just wondering if someone could discribe to be how it sounds when the bottomend has gone.

i have heard the sound on the videos, just wondering from which location it would sound like its coming from?

on my car from the top it sounds like piston sounds, but you place your head below the engine it sounds like an exhaust blowing?

Knocking and slap are pretty distinct. I get a tiny amount of bearing noise from immediate start up in my WRX. It goes almost immediately. Might be worth investing in a stethoscope. I got one for 3quid. Has helped diagnose/pinpoint many noises since.

Thanks for the reply, but what i mean is if the bottom end has gone - on which direction would the sound be coming from?

Either top or bottom tbh. Stethoscope will certainly pinpoint it though. A knackered ex manifold gasket will certainly give a "knocking" sound but when you hear a proper mechanical knock you'll know.

It is worthwhile typing it into Youtube there are a few Subarus on there with bottom end failure noises (in fact one of them goes to **** and dies while running if I remember correctly)

Thanks davey - and its kind of to the right of the engine lower down.. so you could be right with the manifold gasket.. also the boost doesnt seem to be coming in untill above 4,000 - so manifold could be (y)

When my mates Subaru bottom end went after he crunched 3rd gear all you could hear was 1 slight click noise every 20 seconds or so on tickover. Very superficial noise but the garage was adamant it needed repairing/replacing.

Unless he missed a gear and changed down from 4th to 3rd by accident, this would have nothing to do with the bottom end going.

And the sound he described would not have been the big ends.

For bottom end, rev it to 3krpm and let off the gas.

if its that you hear knock, knock, knock, knock etc as the engine slows down
