Default Arghh!!! Blue smoke coming from engine bay!!!

Just been taking my wrx back to garage as the battery wasn't holding charge. I pulled up to get some fuel and there was blue smoke coming from the engine bay!!! Foooook as I jumped out the car to inspect I noticed it was coming from near the front down below, near the cam belt ect!!! It's a really clean well looked after car 1 owner from new, 10 stamps 8 Subaru!! The engine temp was fine!! Pulling really well on the journey!!! What could this be??? Any ideas???

It's blue smoke from the exhaust I would be more worried about.

The rocker cover gasket is probably more likely to be at fault here. I had this on two cars, both around 8 years old at the time, and one of the cars had a fresh engine, but same covers and seals.

There a bit of a bitch to get on when the engine is still in the car as there is little room and light, but it’s a simple enough fix.

first time this happened to me I was running in the new engine, so nothing spirited as I wasn’t revving over 3'000, when I got to my first set of traffic lights after 15 miles of motorway, so obviously the car was then up to temp, smoke everywhere, PANIC was an understatement, as a very small amount of oil makes a large amount of smoke!

If the garage can’t find the fault/leak, then I would suggest they get the car up to temp, providing it is nothing more sinister!

My bet would be driver's side rocker cover gasket. As above.

If it just had an oil change, check the oil filter to see if not one of the blue Subaru oil filters fitted that had a issue with the o ring, info on batch numbers can easily be found on the net
The oil filter is close to the headers.

Mine was doing this, turned out to be one of the cam end seals leaking onto the exhaust. Had also coverd cambelt in oil so got that changed as same time.

That's great news, although I would keep a close eye on your oil, and I'd even be tempted to carry a fire extinguisher, as at the end of the day you have 99% certainly oil leak.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but an engine bay doesn't smoke blue when everything is fine!
