Bit of advice on potential wrx purchase
Hey all, hopefully some of you wise scooby peeps can share some wisdom
I'm looking at potentially getting a 2001 wrx, it's almost immaculate inside and out but the mileage is a little high 125k... It's got 9 stamps service history up to 113k and then it's been serviced and cambelt changed at dealers
Should I be worried by mileage??
Cheers

Go for it. Mileage isn't the be all and end all. Mine had 126k when I got it this month with lots of s/history. Drive is a bit woolly but I've come from a low mileage EP3 type R Civic. Good excuse for "upgrades" anyway. Well impressed with mine and would recommend to anyone.

Bug WRX has been pretty well crippled so as to be well below the output of the STi..........otherwise why buy an STi?
As such the drivetrain and components are not under a lot of stress from the engine. Depends on how it's been driven though LOL
125K not a big disaster........

My Blob WRX PPP is coming up for 100k and seems fine, I used to worry about milage but now take the view that if it has high miles it must be a good un and would not have got there if it hadn't been looked after.
Just don't mess with it if you want it to remain reliable, the old adage "if it aint broke don't fix it" comes to mind.
Another point to consider is 125k for a 12/13yr old car is about spot on milage wise, just means it's been used regularly throughout it's life time which is not a bad thing.

I'd have no concerns at all , some are good some are bad regardless of milage , mine both got into the 140k mark and were not looked after or driven/treated with any mechanical sympathy

Get get any car and crank up the power in big chunks and you could come unstuck
But like you said you want to go slowly , that's the way , run it and drive it for a few k and see how it's looking , then up it a little and so on

I know it has it's doubters most of whom have never driven one, but the PPP is very attractive these days because it's a very cheap, simple and safe way to crank the power up to circa 260 bhp, and there is a very decent shove of torque in the mid range.
I know the usual suspects will be along shortly to attempt shoot me down, but on a £2/3k 130k motor throwing an extra couple of grand at it for similar power to PPP is madness.
All that's needed is a simple re-flash which costs the price of the lead, and a silicone Y pipe for the intercooler which should cost less than £50 off here and hey presto, safe, proven useable power for next to **** all.

Yes mate, the only mods for a PPP 260bhp WRX are a silicone Y pipe and a prodrive back box which is neither here nor there, so yes just the Y pipe and a RE-FLASH of the ecu will see you with 260bhp of STI spanking power for peanuts.
But shuuuuuuush don't tell everyone or they'll all be at it.
