Default Oil and spark plug change, how much!?

My local "reputable" Subaru Specialist has quoted me £171 to change the oil and spark plugs.
I should point out, this is just to fit them. I've already bought the oil and plugs etc.

Does that sound about right? Surely I am being ripped off!?

What items you buy? Do it yourself Saturday morning, would take more than an 2 hours if you know what your doing, have you got some basic tools? That price does seem a little high but I know you would expect that for a main dealer, picked a new BMW up at the weekend for a mate and noticed they had £95 an hour for thier garage labour charge

Annoyingly, I know I could do the job. However, I cracked a rib recently, I'm not working on the car for a while

I bought K&N oil filter, new plug and washer, Millers oil and PFR7B sparks.

The garage who quoted me said its 95 an hour. I guess that's not un-reasonable compared to other, but I can't justify that. I'm too tight...

Sod that, just make it wait until your rib is better!

I did the oil and sparks in mine the other day, 35 mins in total

Hehe, you are right, I should wait. However the Cars' been off the road for 3 months.. Its just this and an MOT that needs doing... I'm getting impatient.

Since you've done it, did you do sparks from underneath, or battery/airbox out job?

The plugs are awkward but very do-able, as stated the oil and filter is a piece of wee wee.

Get the rib fixed and have a good knuckle bashing morning .

Ah i might have mislead you a little there, there isnt alot in my engine bay to get in the way, but to be honest it looks like on a standard 0one remove the airbox and remove the battery should be all you need to get to them!

either way it shouldnt be an issue!

I do mine from above, removed my washer bottle and battery ( tho you can do it with them still in place) but its far easier as just as quick to remove. I also removed my airbox and piping but left the Maff in place. Used a knuckle socket also. There are far better guides on this site if you type it in the search bar,

Plugs are a bit of a learning curve - 2nd time around is much easier.
