Default Rollcage advice please

I want to get a roll cage in my newage for trackdays & do almost no other road miles. If I ever sell the car I will sell as is with cage etc in it as I wont be breaking or selling parts off the car. The only other issue is I must be able to throw a set of track wheels in the rear of the car i.e where rear bench seat is. (Currently I have taken out my rear seats & wont be putting them back in). Am not sure if a multi point weld in cage will still allow enough space to store the wheels in back?

So bearing all that mind should I go for a simple bolt in cage e.g. Cusco / Saftey Devices or go to a company like Custom Cages etc and get them to do a weld in cage. If a weld in cage then what type as I imagine there are various types etc. And if a bolt in one, I have heard they are all made for Classics & work out a bit short in size for newages?

Thanks for any advice as I am a bit clueless on this subject

Depends on why you want it ,,,dash doggers do more harm than good IMO and are only good for show IMO ,,, I had a dash dogger and had a bit of a crash and it did more harm than good as it nearly trapped my legs ,,,,gone for a full weld in one now and it will do a proper job if I crash again

Iv had a prodrive wrc design one but not a lot of places do the same one

Totally agree about a full weld in being best, but surely a Cusco one is better than nothing. Iv bought a Cusco bolt in for trackdays as I can't afford a full weld in at the moment, surely if I roll it I'll be better off than no cage.

My last one was a bolt in cusco one ,,, I agree if you roll it you may be better off but its how it acts when you have a side smash I didn't like as the front didn't seem to protect my legs at all and if anything could have caused them a lot of damage if the car is hit hard

Depends if you're wearing a helmet when you roll it.
With no helmet you'd be better off with no cage at all.

Roll cages are fine for track cars, but for a road car it's quite a big debate.

Thanks so far for everyone's input It will be almost solely a track car so a cage is ok. But I am now leaning towards a proper weld in one. (Must notify insurers after.....Moldy! Lol). Anyone know of companies that can fit a basic weld in cage in the South at a good price?

This one i reckon mate

https://www.scoobynet.com/subaru-par...-and-more.html

I have this cage fitted (well not this actual one, but one the same!) & seems a decent bit of kit but havent tested it! Rather not either! Make sure you use decent, properly welded in stress plates under the car at the bottom of the legs
I have a few pics or can take any if you'd like to see what they fit like.

I have a full weld in cage in my blob WRX, and tbh i struggle getting wheels in. It's just about doable, but it's a pain in the neck, as they have to be slid in from the rear (...), where-as previously I could just chuck them through the rear doors.

Not fun when it's raining etc, and it also makes it harder to pack enough tools and bits and bobs.

Nickson Motorsport did my cage, and the workmanship was spot on. Very good attention to detail etc, I would definitely use again if I needed a cage.

All I have for now, but let me know of anything in particular you'd like to see.
The harness bar & door bars aren't standard.
& ignore the ill fitting padding. Was a temporary measure!!

Uploading pics on my phone is a bit of a mission.

Good pics James

Henrik how much was yours fitted if you dont mind me asking & its a full cage, non dash dodger type? I suppose they do different designs where I may have better access & space to store track wheels in rear?

Great pictures James, thanks for posting. I'm mainly interested in the reinforced areas you mentioned. I assume you just weld plates to the floor under the mounting areas. Where did you get the padding from?
Thanks, Richard.

Mine's a full weld in as well, but not the car pictured.

I've got a bunch of (fairly rubbish) iphone pics here: http://www.bilar.co.uk/subaru/images/cage/

I don't want to quote prices, as I had it done a couple of years back so things might have changed, but I was pleasantly surprised compared to e.g. custom cages, and I cannot fault the workmanship at all. Just wish I hadn't messed it up by painting it myself with a brush (the paint job is, to quote my friend, "brutal")
