dash lights on start up
Hi guys. Ive got a 2003 bug eye and am just wondering what dash lights are ment to come up on start up ie appear then disappear. In particular does the engine management light come up. Picked up a fault code through torque app which could apparently turn on the check light but hadnt. This got me thinking havent seen it on start up. Any idears

where that check engine light is, thats where i have the funny engine light symbol, can see it if i look closely, doesnt show on start up though and as said have picked up a PO558 break booster sensor circuit high, fault through torque app and light isnt showing. if you cant take the bulb out how do you change if blown??
cheers for your help guys.
need the brakes looked at anyway. getting a whistling sound when driving and a creaking at the wheels you pump the brake pedel when stoped and engine running or engine off, with both of them and the fault code, (although that seems electrical) needs a good going over, just trying to find the time.

Odd point to make here, but can't you "delete" this functionality (CEL) with a flash?
And isn't it the Bugs that suffer random phantom misfire codes?
I say this because if that's the case; it could've been that a previous owner had the CEL turned off due to phantom misfires.
I could also be talking out of my bottom!

You can delete codes from the Ecu to stop the engine light coming on but as far as I know you can't disable the light without physically tampering with it.
Yes the bugs had a recurring cel for camshaft sensor i think it was...mainly in higher rev range but the problem being if you disable it totally you never know if you have a real issue and this could be fatal for the engine.

I can't honestly see how it could be deleted without having a piggy-back/standalone/a n other ECU fitted, that doesn't necessarily mean it can't be done though, there are some very clever ECU type people out there! lol

Search P0558 on here and you should find it.
Falling that, it's a vacuum pressure sensor that would ordinarily trigger this IIRC.
