2.1 Stroker or 2.5
Guys can I have some pro'sand cons before I decide on what I am going to spend my hard earned on.
I am looking to fit a 6 speed box and one of these forged engine to my WRX, going to use my current turbo which is a new VF34.
Just want to get people views on the above engines so i can make my mind up.
Thanks

Hi guys
I can only recommend 2.1L,with right parts can be great engine and can take lots of abuse on track or drag strip
Without the doubts I would choose 2.1L,have run 2.1L and still I would choose 2.1L
If you are at London/Kent area I would speak with Neil@Slowboy Racing about the pro and cons both of the engines

2.1 VF34 combo works really well in my experience with the right supporting mods.
The last couple we have done both made in excess of 370bhp and nearly 400lbft.

And there was me thinking that you spec the turbo to the engine, not the engine to the turbo!
The OP really needs to have a talk with an engine builder like David at APi or Alan at Engine tuner for the lowdown on the costs though,; it's not just as simple as drop in the engine and you get the best out of it - there are a host of ancillaries required and it comes down to going in with your eyes open and getting the best that you can afford.
In terms of spec: For the road (and providing you're happy around the 450/450 mark) a forged 2.5 with an SC46 and supporting mods every time. It's just perfect for road use!

Another 2.5 sc46 here, epic engine.
2.1 is flavour of the month for some reason, for a fast road engine, decent built 2.5 gives way more torque so better low down grunt.

2.5 at 400-450
Great road car, lots of torque.
Not as strong as a 2.1 in a CDB.
But if built well and not abused no problem
I have has all flavours of engine over the years.
Personaly like Jura - I favour 2.1 in a CDB as it is stronger set up.
Purely as a road drive I would go 2.5. However look at getting the block pinned

I agree the 2.1 cdb is stronger, but at 400-450 its gonna cost more than the 2.5 and a tad on the over kill side, also more expensive (unless you have alot of the parts alread such as cdb).
I know 2.5's that have had mega abuse yet eaily last years, Kev's at clinic's 22b was their development car/engine lasted 4 years or so iirc and that included running several totb's and god knows how many test's for components. not many engines get that much abuse.
description is wrong on the vid, (unless i have got the timeing wrong) it was still running the origional test 2.5 at mid 400's.

However if on a budget and the engine isnt being pushed that hard. Sensible boost running say 420 or whatever. Then pinning should do the trick.
Bullet proof, for big power, with a bigger budget - then of to Alyn for inserts.
Any news on how Inserted 2.5 blocks are holding up? - as in therory a 2.5 CDB should make for quite an engine

the only news i can give you on our CDB's is that i have never to date had any reported issues - whats the old saying "no news is good news"...........
have lost count of the amount converted but certainly 50+ (probably a lot more??) and plenty running in sprints, etc this year
Clive Fulcher shook down his "bitza" white STi at TOTB also.......
