Default Search fail - Polishing/cleaning yellowing blobeye lens and bodywork seal?

Hi guys

Had a quick search and failed miserably. The mildly dog-like STI Blob that I bought recently is just about properly healthy again, de-chavved for the most part and hopefully will feel worth keeping when I pick her up from S4U soon.

One of the many issues with the car is a two-parter involving the nearside headlight. When I was viewing the ca I had my suspicions that the nearside wing had been replaced and I found it odd that the nearside light was missing part of the seal that runs between the lens and the wing (Quality picture attached showing the area I am on about). I have had a bit of a Google on this and I think that I am SOL when it comes to getting either that part of the seal or another seal to go around the headlight yes?. It looks plop and I want to sort it .

The next problem is that the lens on the nearside is clouding/yellowing quite badly now and I want to get that sorted. My detailer friend who is normally game for anything, doesn't seem to keen on trying to fix it for me and gave me the various reasons why. I think the offside may also be starting to go the same way so would want to get both sorted. What have others on hear done/gone to, to sort this? I am tempted to look for other detailers in my area that may actually want to try sorting it.

Thank,

Nick .

Is it the outside that's clouding up?

If it is if you don't have any polishes/compounds go to halfrauds and get a tube of cutting compound use that on your headlights and they will come up like new

If you have scratches and stone chips wet sand them with 1500 wet and dry then polish them up

They will look brand new

Thanks guys. While there are a lot of things that I will do, with the price of these being what they are second hand, I want to just get an expert to get it right for me first time.

I have done a lot of "lapping" before with 1500 grit and finer to achieve a mirror finish but have only done that on metal, such as computer processors.

I don't have the car back yet so cn't confirm but I have to assume that the yellowing is on the outside.

If its not too bad you will probably be able to just do it with the compounding

Bump and thanks guys, but there are a lot of jobs I will do and this isn't one of them. I am so sodding fussy that unless I get it perfect and even first time, I will keep going to correct any non-perfect areas and before I know it I will have knackered the front.

Any ideas on options for the missing part of the seal between the wing and the headlight? Thanks.

I've used progressively finer wet sandpaper then cutting compound on yellow plastic headlights before. Works great.
