Default STi hatch quick rack

It would appear that fitting a quick rack to the UK hatch is not a straightforward thing to do as it is for a newage car.

I've read that it confuses the computer that is responsible for vehicle dynamics and the DCCD as the steering sensor thinks the wheel is turning at a different rate to what it should.

Is anyone aware of how this problem can be sorted or if there is a fix for it?

I thought newage DCCD used G meters so not sure how a faster rack would confuse them?

All to do with the steering angle sensor that's fitted with the roll connector .................... requires recalibrating ???

Item 6....

Great answers and those diagrams have helped me understand the problem. Cheers guys!

Makes me laugh when you get them dump valve threads and people question the collective knowledge and kick off!

Will be harassing Rob Ostle... again!

Not as easy as you think & as yet has no solution. Neil tried Various parts from prodrive to counteract the issue but to no avail. The problem is with the steering angle sensor feedback and the yaw/G-force sensors not tallying up together so the car thinks its still on the std uk rack and it's turning to fast for the rate of yaw/G-force on the car.

In an ideal world you'd need to manufacture a module to change the signal down from the steering angle sensor.

Don stated about calibrating the steering angle sensor, THIS DOESNT FIX THE PROBLEM as all that can be done is a centralization. however This next parts not been tried yet, If you could locate the control module from a jdm car you may stand a chance of overcoming the issue's or bite the bullet and buy a brand new module which can only be programmed once and set it to country code JP it should then flick the settings over to identify the quick rack, but this hasn't been tried due to cost implications

Its a horrid feeling when is anchors on the front brakes when turning in quick sharp with the quick rack..

Thanks Rob, your reply beat my PM to you.

Right, I'm not in a hurry. But I would like to nail this if possible.

Does the JDM hatch have a quick rack or just the Spec C?

Just need to know whether I can get what I need from a breaker or whether I need to get a new one.

Re-calibration a bit too simplistic then

Looking at part of the wiring diagram the signal outputs from the Steering angle sensor and yaw rate&G sensor are combined before entering the VDC control module....

Both these units are the same on UK / JDM cars. The only item to be different is the VDC (ECU) control module.

For standard STi (UK or JDM) part number is 27595FG020 /091 depending upon year.

For JDM Spec C part number is 27595FG100 /110 depending upon final spec.

So basically it should mean that sticking one of those JDM VDC (ECU) units in at the same time as a quick rack should sort the problem?

Seems to be quite overly complicated, surely it would have been a better idea to have something further along the steering column instead of in the steering wheel? Or am I not considering something very basic and obvious?

VDC is a complex system........
